its worth it
I am surprised no one has said it yet, but how about volume? GM has produced literally millions of LS series engines just since their introduction in 99. That is merely one family of engines made by one manufacturer. How many xs865's are out there?? I would be shocked if it was over 1000.
The "3 F's " rule is in effect here:
"If it floats, flies, or f&*#s, it will be very expensive.
Pretty sure JM was commenting on the number of billet Team Scream packages, not LS1 engines.
And I'd say it's probably a safe bet that "several hundred" is still way too many.
And how much of that $1k oem crank is profit? I'd bet a lot. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with profit. I just wonder how many more cranks or motors would be sold if they were affordable to more people. I would buy a couple 865s if they were I nthe $2,000 range.
Its all supply and demand, little competition in the market vs volume. If people are willing to pay the premium price, they will set the market.Oem parts help make costs high as well but there are tons of good used cases out there and oem cranks can be rebuilt far less expensive. My theory is take the premium price off and make it up in volume,so more everyday standup riders in the states can afford quality power.also get the margins back with volume to be worth the investment. This concept will be tested soon,a sub 2k pv motor will be out this yr.......
