Driving/parking on the sand?

What's the deal with parking on the sand/beach at the Daytona Freeride? We are bringing our big rig (30 foot toterhome) down to the freeride this year and would like to setup on the beach with everyone else. What's the heaviest thing anyone has seen on the sands of Daytona. I remember seeing photos of a Funmover RV out there.

Do you guys typically leave your vehicles out there overnight, or do they have to be moved at night?

Thanks!

I don't know most of the answers but I do know beach driving closes around 5pm. All vehicles must be taken off the beach every day. Beach driving requires a daily pass at $5 per day.

One day i saw a guy with a big motorhome on the beach so i guess they are allowed?? He was also stuck in the sand and it looked as if the beach patrol was going to pull him out.....he didnt look to happy about it

They do kick you off at sunset.
You don't want to park there overnight anyway. (the tide can come right up to the seawall. You could lose/destroy your RV.)
Plus, I don't think it's allowed.
Nobody even leaves their ski's on the beach overnight. (all above the seawall at the Makai)

I'm sure there is a place near the Makai that you can park....Check the event thread. I'm not sure if the big open/vacant lot across from the Makai is allowed or not.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. The main reason for parking our rig on the beach is for accessibility for the riders who may need something from us (we will have parts/apparel available all weekend). The truck is a big heavy truck, it might take a few 4x4's to pull us out at night. I will be sure to hook the people up that help us get off the sand!

Thanks,

Dayum, I was concerned about our lil 8 x 16 enclosed and the big Dodge LOL. Dont think I would nut up and pull he big 30' unit out there. The other thing is available space. You would have to park horizontal to the beack break and that thing would eat up 4-5 parking places i would think. The beach is crowded as it is by 10am.

The sand is pretty hard in Daytona, except up by the sea wall...It is almost like cement...have seen quite a few noses busted off of superjets there due to the hard sand. I think you'll be fine...

The only tricky part is getting on and off the beach. The soft dry sand piles up where the wind blows therough the access roads, meaning you have to venture down towards wetter sand to get on and off the beach. That's fine when the tide is out but it can get very interesting when it is on it's way in. With that big rig you'll want to be off that beach in plenty of time before the sea comes to claim it.

Also I could be totally wrong here but it seems like I remember there being a rule vendors on the beach. Something like all the vendors had to be above the seawall.. Check with Yamaslut on that though, I could be making shiz up again.

I dont know if it will work but maybe a couple (4) sheets of 3/4 ply to place under the the rear tires would help for when geting on and off the sand... just an idea. I dont think you will have a problem. Last year there was a corvette and a big heavy rige that made it just fine.

Live 5 minutes from event location. Sand changes on a week to week basis. Large two wheel drive box trucks with trailers carrying beach rentals (atvs/golf carts) do fine. Just bring some 2x6's to roll up on like "jetkid" suggested. If you become down and out there are plenty of trucks and people to help out. I'll pm you my cell if you'll sleep better knowing a DURAMAX is right around the corner to pull you out.
