Surfriding X-metal trim ring issue

I was taking my pump loose so i could replace the trim cable that was rusted and broken through in a few places. Going to wrap the whole thing in 3/8 tubing this time around. Then i noticed that my trim ring was pointing down like it was a race trim vs. a freestyle one. It looks like the little button that is welded on the trim ring at 12 o'clock to keep the ring level is wearing through my nozzle. The button looks to be wearing as well. Maybe the vibration caused this? Is there a fix for this? Maybe weld a bump there and file it back down? epoxy a small washer or something to keep it from passing the nozzle? The new cable should be tight enough to keep if from pointing down for a little while but would rather fix it right.

Tanner sounds like you are on the right track, xmetal will fix your trim ring at no charge for you if needed.

Take your new trim cable and treat the inside with corrosion x before using it, this will make your cable last alot longer in saltwater use.

I did a little quick mock up with a stainless washer and it will work just find. I am going to epoxy it to the top of the nozzle and it will be just like new!

Same thing happened to mine, compounding the issue is the bored nozzle to 85mm which makes it thinner in the top area. now I now have a dented in and now cracking reduction nozzle. i will have to try the washer trick.

If you are not going around buoys, it's quite alright for the nozzle to point up 1 or 2 degrees rather than exactly neutral. Keep in mind the pump pressure always tries to straighten out the nozzle and it will make hard contact at the mentioned pressure points. A fancier solution to this issue would be to have x-member zero weld an aluminum boss onto the reduction nozzle with a built in capscrew for "neutral" adjustment. Works well on my 09.

Nope not just you, I was a little bummed to be honest, they should have put the bump back farther so it didn't hit right at the edge, I tried getting a longer bolt for the top attachment for the steering nozzle so there are two contact points, but I'm pretty sure I'll be lookin for another nozzle soon, I have a feeling it's only going to get worse.

I have been thinking about it...Dasa!!! But I think a different cyl will help. According to Fred its just not the right one for me. I think some ported cases and cyl would help. Or live a little and just get the thrust setup....hmmmm.

Just glued the flat washer on top of the nozzle... we shall see how long it lasts. It stops the nozzle at the correct spot.

I told ya send Brian your bottom end... How can you beat that price

Ported cases, new crank seals, brand new Billet Dasa PV cylinder.... 850 cc for what others charge for there BB and a setup that hold some value

Your new hull we love some brap under the hood, you only live once my friend.... I bet B could turn it fast for ya...

Little more brap and you can take the training wheels I mean broken trim off, lol

Ill have to be in touch Im going bigger with my motor this winter, I just havent decided what just yet. I think with more power ill either be able to start landing tricks or kill myself which makes the point moot.

I am thinking the same thing....More power! Would make it easier to get around on backies. I've done a few without it lately but still like to have it for the smaller waves. I was thinking that the spring could be adding to the wear issue maybe? After landing, does the nozzle snap back quickly and wear it out? Once you are on the throttle the nozzle straightens out so you don't really need it, supposedly. Plus i was wondering if it would make the pull any easier? It is a little heavy at the moment.

Ill answer that one for you, ive run mine both ways, its heavy no matter whether there is a spring or not, you arent pulling the lever under very much throttle no matter what you do if you dont have the thrust easy pull. changing the lever makes it a little better but the lever that comes with the x-metal kit just doesn't have the leverage.

Word of warning: get the technique worked out before going to a bigger motor.

(That said, I have started looking into upgrading to something a lil' bigger myself.)

I was wondering if a lever change would make a difference...might try that also. Which one do you recommend buck? Why is the thrust one so much easier to pull...its crazy!

The Thrust uses a fixed pulley, which halves the force required.
