x-metal scupper

dont use it they leak bad. i have one and sucks as bad as my wammer one on my old squarenose.here the xft are the way to go.btw they use thin wall pvc hard to find 2" i had to go to a landscape desighn place to get it. i tried 4 homedepots and 2 lowes. i think its called 100psi its for sprinklers.

They are terrible. I leaks as if you have a hose inside your hood. 2 bilge pumps hardly keep up with it. I already plug the hole with an expanding freeze plug after only ridding with it for a couple of time. Huge mistake to install one.

I still think scuppers help sink boats.
Turn it upside down and a scupper becomes an air vent,
allowing the trapped air to escape and the boat to swamp.
I thought about it and decided not to install one.
But, then again, I dont ride surf!

Doing trick after trick after trick takes on alot of water. I like being able to empty mu hull as fast as i can.

It's just part of having a freestyle boat....mods wear engines faster and scuppers have their little flaws. IMO the goods outweigh he bads

Then you need to change the rubber or its not installed correctly. If I let mine sit in the water, it sometimes leaks a tablespoon every minute. Most of the time the water tension keeps it sealed pretty good.

However, I have a mod I'm working on that should eliminate the float-n-leak. I'll post more after a few tests.

what size tube does a x-metal scupper use?

use jeffs...... i have yet to install my bilge and have no prob

i actually dumps out really well and when i was out there at his shop none of his boats has a bilge and i was like WTF but now after using mine i realized you dont really need it (but im going to install one as insurance)

if you want to put one on ur to dress it up go for it!

Sanford what is the trick? I have heard several differant ideas on how to cure the problem. If I let my ski sit at the lauch rap and change without the bilge pumps on the entire engine compartnment is full of water in about 5 minutes. It leaks like a siz. I have heard to put a metal read petal on there and it keeps it shut as well as replace the rubber seal with a piece of turf. Any info will help. Like I said I have a 2' expandable freeze plug in there now to keep it from pouring water in. I am lost and don't want to loose the benfits of the scupper but I will to keep out the water. Thank you for any and all info.

112motorsports,

That really sucks. Did you happen to over tighten the screws that sandwich the plates and base mount? I take it when its in water the rubber flap isn't flat against the face. Could you take some pictures? Also, if you have an XMW scupper, I'm sure Pat would help you resolve this issue (maybe a new rubber flap is in order).

Would by any chance that mod be called a one way valve ?
Nope. It uses the big mouth type scuppers and will retro-fit on any of these XMW or Wamiltons versions (essentially the same)

I'm not knocking 1-way valves....but I fear the type of ridding I do it would get clogged with sand from beaching all the time or leaving ski at shore break. Besides, scuppers got the dump speed advantage.

This past weekend (Sunday) was pretty big and on a early re-entry I got rolled on big white water and was upside down under water for 50ft, reving motor to keep alive. When I flipped it upright I could feel hull must have had 8" of water and after doing 1 wide right hand turn (scupper on left) my bilge pump stopped pumping. It emptied that quick!  The bad news was I lost yet another pair of sunglasses on that one :banghead:

Sanford,
one of these days we'll have to do a contest to see who's ski sinks first.

But seriously, the one way valve isn't all that restrictive at all and together with my 24/7 scupper keeps the bilge nice and dry.

No matter what, I would rather have a leaky scupper than the ever failing bilge pumps and switches (I ride in salt) to worry about.

You can use the regularly found PVC, you just have to notch out the pipe with a dremel for the nylock nuts to be able to recess into the pipe.
Right Charlie?? :beerchug:

BTW - Was talking to Pat about the X-metal scupper awhile back and he said he was going to get a big supply of that thin walled PVC irrigation pipe and each scupper will come with a piece in the future.
