Would a 48mm Blackjack carb be good for freestyle as a single setup on a ported 701?

As in the title...

I have a blackjack that I might swiotch insterad of the 38mm duals to get better hit from the bottom - what you guys think? Or is that more of a "race carb"? Remember that this is the "annular discharge" type carb...

Andrew

was thinking the same on 61x cases and an lpw ported 61x cylinder, running big single carb.

Absolutely you could use that Blackjack. I'm not sure what you mean by "race carb" except perhaps a carb that someone can't figure out how to tune the low speed circuit on.:bad3:

The foundation of that Blackjack is a 46 Mikuni, the same as Novi.

Not sure if you are going to see a big difference in hit compared to your dual38s, but if you have all of the parts in hand, give it a shot. We've recently experimented by switching from stock dual 38s to a single 48 Novi on the ATP intake with V-Force reeds on a Limited 701 setup and there is no noticeable difference except that it looks a lot cooler on that billet ATP intake.

Thank you for your insight. I used the term "race carb" becuase the only real 2 stroke ski service told me that they are used mostly in racing and that...they actaully never seen a blackjack :). These guys are racers, not freestylers.
I had the same idea that basically al I need to do is to tune it for bottom end.

Any ideas how to set up that carb?

I have a b-pipe, currently stock cylinder, 08 SJ prop, manifold spacer..

Is there a way ( I heard Kawi 650 inlet manifold does the job) to install a single setup on 61x cylinder?

We had one on a freeride blaster that we struggled with and never did get right..............Went to a stock 46 and it ripped.

I think people refer to it as a race carb because it MAY not have good signal or low speed response. Dont know if thats true or not in general, but thats what we saw on ours..................

Stock 38s are hard to beat!

I dont know about you but my Brapjack dual 44's are like a light switch. There is no "hee-hawing" around with these carbs.. You hit the throttle off idle and they hit instantly.
Best bang for the buck mod I've ever done, next to a B pipe and TL. Brapjacks are way better than any stock OEM carb.

You could idle through a 1 mile no wake zone and hit the throttle and bam there on! No loading up with these. Very easy to set up and tune also.

They arent really categorized as a "specialty carb", because they do both very well.

Honestly your the first person I've ever seen to say anything like this about a BlackJack carb...

No good signal? Low speed response? PUH-lease, these are ridiculous statememts!!

Sounds like jetting or tuning errors or some other problem.

I agree. Mine hit everywhere, all the time, never fails. No loading up ever, instant throttle response.

x4 . Try this setup 155, 130 ,2.5 with 95 spring it came from Art i was going to try a 48 bj on Erica's ski she is running a set of 38s with Arts mods and they work great on a ported cyl ,he told me that i would probably go back to the 38s but give it a try i just never got a intake. Let me know how it works

Ok, I thought a carb at about 350 usd can't be bad. I will give it a shot - after the seaons ends. What about the manifold? I really don't want to spend 200 usd (or similar) to a single manifold? Can the Kawi 650 be used??

And thank you for all comments!

There are only two options for manifolds.
1. The ATP Queenford Manifold
2. Any Kawi 650 manifold plus an adapter plate.

I got the manifold (ATP). Tonight I got rid off the oem's + inatke. Planning on putting it back together this weekend with a single 48BJ. My setup changed in the meantime, but still not a huge motor (727cc), ported cyl. epic igntion (to be tuned), 177 PSI comp (I might switch to 33cc domes), Fpipe, carbon reeds.

I was wondering whether putting an angled reed spacer is a good idea ( I have it). Lighten flywheel??

It seems I brought this one back from the dead!

My lake is still almost frozen, so no testing untill another month or so... In the meantime, I prefer to assemble the ski to a perfect condition and then ride the season without a single fault. I've been doing like that for years and its all good.

how about the angled reed spacer? Good / bad idea for this setup?
