windows 7 won't connect to internet but laptop will

I can get to the router log in with windows 7 but not the internet.

I can get online with my lap top wired and wireless.

all the advice i find online says reinstall windows 7 but id rather not.

I tried a system restore and it didn't work



any ideas?

This is a long shot but get in to your device manager and remove the NIC and then discover new hardware. It will refind the NIC and reinstall the driver....just takes a second.

It's dumb that I've done that before in xp, I figured this new fangled version would be past that by now.

Vista and Windows7 does that a lot in my experience, any improper shut down will prompt the computer to reload the drivers on the next reboot, and sometimes not install those drivers properly.

Seems to have gotten better with 7, but happens all the time on my Vista Machine. But after all, 7 is just a prettier (all be it better) version of Vista.
