i run spybot and no virus programs.
been lucky for about 4 years now.
i dont do myspace, and very little u-tube.

most of the newer windows programs have windows defender built it, so look for that program in the start menu and update it every week.

good luck

x3...I have been switching people over after testing it myself for a while. It ain't perfect but its secure. It claims number one with zero day attacks...which makes sense...they should have had it 15 years ago.

It ties in MS updates though so you are forced to do MS updates....which can suck.

How do you IT boys feel about AVAST? I have been running the free versions on all my PC's for 4-5 years now and have had zero issues whatsoever. My old desktop is going on 7 years old at this point and has never had a virus, (that I have been aware of) and is still running strong and fast. I started off with Mcafee but switched after an incident with Mcafee on a work PC.

been using avg free for years now, when you get prompted to buy just uninstall and install the newest version.

I have been using it on brand new customs and I am loving it! It shaved a lot of time off of my set ups. It seems like this should really just put some people out of business!

MSE and crap cleaner (now called ccleaner) are all I install now.

Yes its very good! CCleaner is also really nice but when it comes to viruses and crap once they get in, Any anti-virus wont get them out you have to go through manually and sweep the registry temp folders etc. no program can do EVERYTHING.
Basically stay away from stuff know to give viruses and you will be alright.
90% of infected machines that come in our shop are user inflicted.
Especially those fake alerts they get the grandma's and grandpa's all the time.

I don't run any antivirus on any of my systems......
Benny

and you can and you should be alright but you constantly get cookies etc. just from everyday internet use so MSE and CCleaner really help a bunch.
I mean MSE is free as long as you have a valid verson of windows. Hell i've seen it work on cracked versions of windows that use a registry exploit.
