I have two ski options

1. Brand new sj 08 hull, hood and pole / with s/h 61x motor ,b pipe and rebuilt pump

hull will be reinforced and footholds fitted

2. light weight carbon hull and aftermarket pole with the same engine and pump.

There is a $5000 price difference

i can Br but only land 1 in 3 properly i would like to back flip in the next 6 months ( surf )

should i get the stock hull and learn ( bash it ) for a year or just go straight to the carbon hull ?

will the 61x have enough power for a carbon surf boat ?

thanks for your help

aftermaket hull, but you dont have to get a full carbon hull alot of manufacturies use just as good materials and get impressive results and dont cost as much, and if your riding in the surf you want a tougher hull as compared to a superlight flatwater hull

In the surf IMO u wouldn't need the lightweight hull, save the 5 grand to put into the stocker hull. IMO. Afterall i have never rode surf, just figured you already have massive waves to hit.

How many of you have ridden a carbon hull?
How about a carbon hull in the surf?

The carbon hull is more of a flat water ski, IMO. I have ridden a carbon hull in the surf and they are difficult to ride. A stock hull handles much better in the surf. The bennifit of a carbon hull (weight) is not necessary in the surf.
I did my first back flip in the surf on a BONE STOCK ski (with footholds).

Weight is not as big an issue in the surf, you have a 3-6 foot vert ramp coming in every 6-8 seconds.

Oh I thought "they" had a surf carbon hull that was like 85lbs and very expensive. I thought a carbon flatwater hull was a different hull.

In that case I would save the 5k and buy your own hull someday.

Ross brought out one of those superlight hulls a few weeks ago and we all tried it out. It was a nice ski but definitely was not needed for the surf. Light weight hulls don’t really have an advantage in the surf. Save the 5K and go with the stock boat.

there are alot of people trying to sell the Rev hulls and i know the LPW ski that was in the Addiction is back up for sale too and that is a sick ski! But for 5-6k you can normaly pick up a lightweight hull at least. If im way off someone can but in

its not a flat water hull but a surf hull ( strong ) might be a copy of the 08 sj

WILL THE 61X BE FINE ?

i'm now thinking 08 sj with aftermarket hood will be the way to go

I subscribe to the lighter is better theory, but there is such thing as too light for the surf.. I always thought it would be smart to get the lightest, strongest hull possible and then add weight if needed. that way you have control over where the weight goes and so on. I have never had the money to get a carbon hull and try adding weight, but I think it would be awesome to have 1 boat that could be fun on flat (remove weight) and fun in the surf (add weight). I mean it would not be that difficult to do...

I don't know... just thinking out loud...

why go OEM when you can have a better made after market hull??? Assuming money is not an issue
