4 is more structural.

2 is lighter, I would go with that.

I used 3 the last time I foamed.

i would go 3lb regardless of whether you ride fresh or salt. its the lightest they sell thats still 100% closed cell foam. the 2lb is like 95 or something

yeah thats what i thought. styrofoam is the only thing that doesn't absorb water i thought. can you buy a mixture to make styrofoam from a composites store? or can you only buy the sheets of foam like you would find at the home depot?

You have to buy sheets.
Check out my build thread in the Ski Buildup forum to see how I used styrofoam.

I forgot!
i have some 1.2 lbs foam, it is non structural and seems like it would be a sponge. Don't get that stuff to do your entire ski. I like the rigid "styrofoam" way to foam a ski.

as for solidity...yes the 2 or 3 lb foam is legit...but if there are any leaks in there it definitely absorbs water.

yeah matt i saw your build too...looks good. how has it held up sofar?

i drilled two holes in my ski today checking for water before i start this project. both sides dripped one or two times and that was it. on a side note, earlier this summer when i changed my impellar out, it drained quite a bit of water out the pump housing bolt holes. my ski does lean to the right more than other skis but mine has a b pipe and the others have dry pipes. is the pipe the reason its leaning or does it have wet foam?

I'msure most all skis lean to the right due to the lack of foam in the right side due to the exhaust pipe and the pipe also fills with water while you float. Someone correct me if i'm wrong though!!!

The battery sits on the left side, that's the primary reason it is leaning.
There is also less flotation in the left rear half of the ski due to the exhaust tube.

thanks guys, i think i have talked myself out of this project. heres a pic of it in the water but it does lean a little worse at times

The battery is a huge factor to how much a ski leans.
With my light battery the ski floats level.

i just picked up my battery. its got some ass to it. if it died today i couldnt complain. its atleast 3 yrs old maybe 4 and has been in a couple of different high compression boats. when it does :):):):) the nest, ill probally buy another one just like it or a jet works. its an interstate by the way.

well....i'm sure every ski is different, but i'm positive that my tray is filled w. water. when i drilled the hole for dual cool and had it on its side for reinforcement, it dripped for days. mine seems to lean just as yours pic does in the water...so if you say that sometimes it leans more you may want to address it. if you do decide to do it...i'm sure you know to 5200 EVERYTHING right???

SXR's come stock with Styrofoam...Maybe thats what I'll use on my Trinity hull.......

let us know how that comes out...being that you have to use the sheets. im seriously considering doing this but it seems to be a production from watching matt and Kennay 's ski
