Im about to be purchasing an new handpole and I want an idea of which length to go with. Im abt 5'- 10'' and ride mostly flat with some surf, I was considering a -4. Anyone around my height have a preference they would like to suggest I use?

-2 with a short turnplate and straight bars is great and I am 6'.

I would suggest a -4 inch pole. Then you can adjust your setup from -4 to -8 with the right turnplate setup.

I am 5'7" and ride only flatwater and I have a -4" pole and -3" bars which is a combo of a shortened turn plate with straight bars.

If you make your own straight bar setup with a stock turnplate you can move your grip forward 4 inches. I have a picture posted around here somewhere with both sets of bars on a stock turnplate showing the 4 inch difference.

Oh found it...

I'm 5'6" and I'm running a -4.5 pole and stock turn plate. Somedays it feels real short, but when I see pics of myself riding, I think I should shorten it more.

I think the team bill pole I am looking at says the bracket is -2 so with a -4 pole. i would assume i will be getting the same result as running a -4 with shortened turnplate.

I have plenty of "go fast" parts... next step is bb or stroker. My current pole is aluminum std length. I'm building a ski and i like the team bill pole alot so im definately purchasing a pole.

std length AC pole on my SN with 0 deg bars
tried xmetal shortened plate (nice parts!) and it killed my back
great for tricks, lousy for riding for any distance
sold the xmetal, back to stock and happy!

I'm 6'3" and run a -5 set up and I really like it. Seems perfect for me. I have a bad back and this doesn't seem to bother it. I couldn't go much shorter though.
I started out -3.5" and like the -5" a little better.

Not wanting to thread jack or anything!! But I am now concidering this for my pole BUT.... what is the actual benifit to a shorter pole. Just don't want to @%&* it up. Did a search but not to my satisfaction.

a shorter pole makes it easier to do tricks like stabs, rolls, inverts.

basically anything where you need your weight further forward.

it forces you to keep your weight centered over the ski instead of hanging off the back of it.

i have a -2 ac pole(lowered blowsion bracket also) but have a -3 stock turnplate with straight bars on the way. im hoping i like it compared to stock length turnplate with 0 degree bars.
