What is the X Video Project?

Yep. Not Darin's fault at all....just no real good video produced and I was hoping others would send me vids from their own gopros and riding spots, but that didn't happen either. It's tough to get a big group of people to do anything organized....I think that's why the freerides work so well. Unorganized organization. Everyone does what they want!

I may try to get something going again this winter, depending on how much free time I have.....just have other priorities now.

I may just make another Freeride DVD...I've got enough footage over the past 4 years. It just has to come out better than my last one or it's not worth it because it is all the same rides, just different years. Daytona/WaveRave/FSF/WaveDaze/LakeErieFreeride/RocknRide/Niagara....along with us screwin around in Cleveland.

I would love to be able to get out to Pismo, Oregon, Oceanside and do some real filming out there in some new location.... but thats not gonna happen for at least 3-4 years.

I have always enjoyed your edits (revamps) on videos you previously posted, and others have posted that they did as well DJ. You did them in such a creative manner, adding in some new stuff here and there, enough to keep them fresh and new like. My personal experience is that everyone always wants instant gratification (egos); they wish everything to be seen yesterday, lacking patience, unfortunately. Maybe pm Charlie on the West Coast for instance; perhaps he would be willing to work something out with you. If the footage received was not useable, then maybe try networking with those known to have much experience with filming (and of course credit their contributions). It would sure cut down on edit time, plus produce quality as well as a bit more organization. I would enjoy seeing more than just freerides…it would be nice to see some off the known water ways mixed in as well.

When I got the camera back from being shipped around the country, it had very little footage on the SD cards, and of that even less was usable for any kind of video.

I'm not sure very many understood the video concept and just used the camera for their own purposes, deleted their videos and sent it along.

I think the X vid was a good idea, I just think you went about it the wrong way. IMO you shouldn't have provided a GoPro, instead any one insterested in having thier footage "considered" for the vid should of been required to send you a NON returnable SD card filled with there best efforts. This would eliminate the non serious. Also a dead line for video submisions should be set. Personally after making a few vids myself, I found that getting any kind of decent video footage is pretty dang hard. On average out of an hr of video I might get 3-4 minutes of useable footage. I also realized that not every one can video. It seems simple but I've found that very few people have a natural insight for what it takes to get good shots. If anything my respect for a good camera man has certainly increased.
A second go would be good, The idea is solid and would make a good vid with a lot of variety to it. Just need to lay down some solid rules to weed out the non serious

All good ideas. I will consider it and maybe put together a plan for winter when people aren't riding and may be able to put together some decent footage for me. I will probably need the names of some of the people who make decent vids on here and I can start getting a list together of who to contact. (Plus start a new thread and get some people stoked about it).

Back when Darin originated this idea, gopros were very new and nobody had one. Now, it is a whole different story.

HOWEVER, gopros need a TON more editing, if you film an hour, you may get a minute of usable footage.

Im still kind of new to some stuff, but this would be awesome to get going for next summer. I've got a couple of riding buddies that would be interested too, and our girlfriends could do the filming. Keep the ideas going...

if the idea is still being pushed around when i get my ski running i will gladly do it. but.... im just starting out , and im extremely agressive. im sure some good footage of a newbie going all out would be good. just a thought. plus it will mostly be in ponds. lol
