FX-1 What all is done to make a 144 pump bolt in?

I know tom21 can make it happen but i dont have that kinda money to spend at the moment so im wondering what all is done. Is it a simple cut and reweld on the rear mounts or is there more to it? If thats it do you think i could take it to a welder and have it done assuming i can find the measurements i need?

actually the wear ring is the only part that needs to be replaced and if you buy one with the plastic liner its like 35 to fix it when it wears out. the steering nozzle needs the tabs welded too but its not something that will need to be replaced because of wear.

welding stuff on it is not the major work, maching and fitting the tabs is what takes the time. if you can grind and cut your pieces its only a few welds to wrap it up.

there are a few who did the kawi pump and a few others who made like a bracket to attach the pump thru the long bolts that hold the sections together.

more than one way to skin a cat...

I like my 650 pump. It took more work but thats because I blended the pump cavity for bettet flow into the shoe. Yamanube's process is pretty easy. Like Tom said, more than one way.

easiest shortest explanation. measure the location or your current shaft and make sure the new one is in the same spot. LOL. search is your friend, this has been detailed and covered more than once on most of the setups. wish I had the time to spell it out for you.

cats is probably doable its just tight in that area.

I've read most the threads onthe pump conversion I just never figured out how in ensure
it's properly aligned.
If I put in a 144shoe will I need to enlarge the intake or will that jut be icing on the cake? I think one I get the parts together and can actually look at the hull with both pumps in hand it will make much more sense. How much can I expect to pay for a pump and shoe? I saw a pump for like 40$ on eBay but I haven't made a bid

if you have the bolt on conversion, what do i need to do in order to make the superjet pump seal well into the pump shoe??? Is boring it out to 144 the only answer??? it seams like if you don't do something there will be a huge are for cavitation when the water enters the pump. Any suggestions??

144mm shoe glassed in and intake opened to 144mm at narrowest point. Still uses FX1 grate, I didn't lengthen the intake area for a Sj grate. Considerable work in massaging ride plate/pump/hull to get pump to fit without shimming rideplate, to keep RP flush with bottom of hull.

Wow that looks really nice, does anyone have pics of glassing in the shoe? From what I understand you pop out the origional and insert in the 144. Where I get loss at is the glassing part.

Any pics of the process? Looks really well done, just curious as to how you opened up the intake and made everything so smooth when done.

A couple more pics of work in progress. Just sand, measure, repeat. Hardest was getting the shoe square to the hull, and grinding the x-large Blowsion cast shoe. Due to having to sink the shoe into the ski to get the bottom of the hull to my liking, I had to add much reinforcement under the tray.

What intake is that out of curiousity? Ive wanted one for my stock setup but i thought it would be a waste if i swapped out for a 144 but that looks like it should hook nicely. Do you think the fx1 grate hooks as well as a sj grate or would the longer intake be worth it?

Spend the time fitting the 144 pump shoe and pay attention to proper driveline alignment! The FX grate will work just fine...
