SXR Weight conflict of SXR stock hull.

Hey everyone,

New to the forum. Read posts and threads from time to time on here figure I would hop on. Lot of useful knowledge and discussions from fellow riders on here.

Picked up a new SXR 800 in Apr 10'.

Coming to the realization that the biggest dilemna on the SXR is the weight of the stock hull...

I'm curious if there is anyone out there that has been able to develop a good formula of aftermarket parts that will get the bulky SXR stock hull to perform at least a good "flatwater" barrel roll and/or backflip. From what I understand a BF is very difficult to impossible on the stock hull (even with aftermarket parts).

I have put a few parts into mine already including a RRP pole, did the D-cut mod on my ride plate, TDR waterbox, got a good deal on turf and footholds so threw those on also. I know there are a few things to drop some weight such as an aftermarket hood, etc.

Can't say I'm real interested in refabbing the hull itself to drop weight though.

I have looked into the trinity hulls. Now do these hulls allow you to move your SXR components from your stock hull into these lighter hulls? Kind of aggrevating and annoying that I might have to spend an extra $6000+ to go this avenue. But might have to do so anyway.

Talk to DJKorn on here....I don't think he spent nearly 6k and dropped 80lbs by going trinity! He loves it and it rips!

It is about 6k for a Trinity hull....depending on which one. It will make your ski faster and a LOT lighter. The RRP pole was a step backwards...super heavy. If you want to spend less, sell your SXR and buy a ready to freestyle used Superjet for around 6k.

As far as parts....all your motor needs is a Wetpipe and light flywheel and it will rip. (especially in a light hull)

btw...a hood makes a big difference. You could cut the liner out of your stocker or get a Trinity.

Appreciate the input guys. Like the look of your ES djkorn1. Nice color scheme. Did u go with full length or a -2 option on yours? What would you suggest for a flatwater application full length or -2? Thanks.

If you are flatwater make sure to go with wet pipe head and ignition, pump stuffer and prop helped also, plus what DJ said. Dorpping weight will help but it is the width that make all us SJ riders claim its so heavy. My SJ is 10 lbs lighter than my SXR was. Trinity hood etc. also a cheap trim kit will help i just used it and fixed the nozzle up about 5 deg, no cable, made the nose super light and the steering was so nice. after that is practice, you will FW roll it but no BF, we at least no one I know does a FW BF on one, unless its aftermarket and minus something

SXR-FOREVER

Finally Flippin
I lost 100 pounds off my by going to the -2 Trinity Evo XF which I just sold.

if you want to ride the SXR I'd sell yours, get a trinity...put a built yamaha 701 based motor in it with a Thrust EZ pull trim and you will be EXTREMELY happy.

DJ and I disagree on the motor thing but I can promise you that my yamaha 809cc hit harder (night and day difference) then my built SXR motor. Plus I went from 1 hour and 10 mins on a tank of gas to about 1 hour and 30-40 mins. It is the BEST of both worlds and I'd highly recommend it.

I agree if it's 809cc....built to the hilt yamaha based motor, but you have to do more mods to a 701 yamaha to make it hit like a kawi800. ;)

and go with the -2 hull!

Maybe i'll just pick me up a new Q8 SKY 1200CC :mischievous:. Nah... doubt my bank book is going to agree with that one... Think I have a good plan of attack on what I want to do to accomplish my goal. Thanks for all your input guys... appreciate it...
