So today i was turning on my SXI and it wouldnt start after the first atempt so i tryed it again and then all of a sudden a hear a loud shot that sounded like a gun and when i opened my hood there were 2 cracks on the water box what could have this been from? I hate when stuff breaks!:banghead: :banghead:

And where could i get a used OEM water box? price ?
And where could i get a aftermarket water box? Price

How would i have to install this? would it be a really big job and i would need someone professional to do it or is it a easy job?

i blew my waterbox on my square earlier this year....loud as hell wasnt it.....i know it scared the crap outta me. turned out it was due to an exhuast leak...i dont know about the sxi but on the square it wasn't that bad to do..

Yamasaki, yea the water box is in behind the exhuast next to the electrical stuff , i would hate to take out my engine because i dont have the tools to lift it up.

Bandit did you have to pull out your engine to get the old waterbox out and the new one in?

Sure you do. They're attached to your shoulders.

Jet, two people can lift the engine and exhaust in one piece out of the sxi without any problem. I just did it last week on mine.

Takes about 20 mins to remove the engine with electrical.

On the 750 you can just remove the exhuast and manifold to get it in, but I would rather lift the whole engine.

My buddies B1's waterbox blew up on us like that too. It sat for a day or two and the next it was started it was so loud. Like previously stated it almost sounded like a shotgun.

you should figure out why it exploded to begin with. every time ive seen this happen, its due to the stator or cdi.

if you get another stocker and have another misfire like that, itll kill the new one. if you get an aluminum one, itll usually withstand the pressures of even the meanest of misfires..

Why would you want to lift the whole engine when you can just take out the exhuast and manifold is there some kind of benifit to it?

O and by the way you guys are way more helpful then the people over at PWCtoday

Because you won't have to buy an exhaust gasket kit this way, and I'm anal about keeping my hull clean inside the bilge, so it's a great time to clean everything up.:Banane01:

You make a good point there Rickster i probally will just take out the whole engine and clean the inside of it.

How long does it usually take to take out and install the new waterbox?

2 hours.

4 if youre anal.

id inspect that stator while you have the engine out. you dont have to remove the flywheel, just the flywheel cover.

Seconds... there is a plate with two 10mm bolts that holds the waterbox in place, unbolt those and the waterbox fall right out.

If it's a metal WB, then just get it welded.

Seconds??? heh, gotta pull the engine or at least the entire exhaust to physically get it out of the hull, at least on my '95 you did.

I ditched the stock waterbox and got a Jetcraft Turbomuff, much lighter, better flow and good sound.

I stated above it takes about 20 mins to remove the engine and electrics, so the 'Seconds' is only to remove and replace the waterbox. (ok, maybe 30 mins, but it wouldn't be much more).

To remove the engine...

- undo battery cables
- 4 bolts on the electrical box
- disconnect two water lines to the electrical box
- disconnect hose between exhaust and waterbox
- disconnect hose to water intake
- disconnect throttle and choke cables
- disconnect fuel lines
- remove engine mount bolts

The entire engine and exhaust then lifts out of the hull!:Banane01:

Then to disconnect the waterbox, unclamp the exhaust hose fromt he water box outlet, remove the two bolts stated in previous post, and the waterbox slips right out.

They referred to welding your waterbox that blew up was aluminum, but if it a stock fiberglass one, there is no sense in repairing it.

my x-2 backfired because like charlie said... the timing was off.

the screws came loose and caused the stator to slide back and forth retarding and advancing the timing non stop...

I called Factory Pipe a min. ago and asked if the waterbox that says that goes with the 750sx, if it would also fit onto the SXI. The lady said no but i wanted to come here and ask to.
