vista upgrade question

Vista has to be installed on a work computer. There is no option of keeping xp in this case.

The install is going to happen in a day or two. I'm trying to get my ducks in a row now.

is there a choice in installation, upgrade vs format and install fresh?


just looking for some tips before I get started.

dont think so, gotta format the xp

once you have some form of vista, you can then "upgrade" to a better/different version

U can't upgrade from XP to vista?

Look for a hardware compatibility list for vista. That's going to be your biggest problem.

After that, make sure you have the minimum system requirements.

U get all that covered, U should be good. Is this going on a generic computer, like a Dell Inspiron? Or an assembled computer?

If I am installing an OS I always do fresh installs... drivers could be an issue for an older PC...

make sure ario or whatever is called is turned off so that it doesn't suck so money resources.

i did a fresh install of vista home premium on one of my computers at home b/c i got it for free and it has given me nothing but problems ever since. Drivers suck and re install them selves every other time I reboot the computer.

The business software says xp or vista and expressly says not both. There are 2 new vista machines in the office and one older xp machine so the xp machine gets an upgrade.

Finally have my new TechNet subscription in hand.. hehe. All my machines will be seeing lots of "upgrades" at home. Only the new laptop is running Vista. But it was designed for it and has all the goodies like Blu_ray. I've gotten used to Vista. But damn is it a pain sometimes. our tech refresh will start soon at work so we'll roll it out before too long. Poor service desk monkies.

Now try Office 2007.. holy crap... you can't find anything. Its a totally new animal all together. I want to kill my docs all the time now. Some cool features but its sooooo different. I've worked IT for a loooooooong time and it still makes me nuts.

Oh nevermind I see.

I would call there tech support and confirm that it can't run on both for starters. Seems odd to me.

it has a legal copy of xp on it now. the software we need to run has to be on vista or xp, the 2 new computers already have vista with all the software installed already.


it looks like the graphics card may need to be upgraded on the xp machine.
