Maybe i was mistaken
thats not what i was told but i am not going to argue with what msd says about there company i am sure they know best

About the lean / rich areas in the mixture
i guess we will have to disagree on that one

:hail: wow I got alot a learnin to do!!!!

I don't have a problem using MSD as long as I can learn how to properly install and use it. I think Scottie Mac said it best.

"but a lot of MSD reliability problems are self iinflicted"

If Jon@JSS can make one bullet proof I'll call and talk to him.

thanks all for the input!!!

I read that history on the MSD web site a few days ago. It sounded like the high voltage primary input got a higher (40K+V) secondary output much faster thant conventional 12V coil technologies which enabled the coil to be triggered multiple times for each compression stroke...then at higher RPM's, there was not enough time to cycle the ignition coil more than once.

The key word above is enabled a multiple spark. There must be additional circuitry in the coil to enable this. The stator trigger starts the process but then the controller must fire off multiple primary currents to the ignition coil.

So my question that I've yet to see answered, is " do these MSD PWC total loss systems enable multiple spark? ":dunno:

okay guys I am hoping one of you knows how to set this thing up I ran across a brand new unit that has a broken switch and a missing front cover.I have about 20 yrs exp with watercraft but no exp dealing with total loss ignition and this came with no instructions.I guess what I need is maybe the chart converting degrees to thousandths for the dial indicator for initial timing setup.Although I am sure I could figure it out I would rater do so in as painless a fashion as possible,so any and all help would be appreciated, thanks.

Yeah Waxhead doesn't respect 550's...One of mine mine hit 9,800 RPM's today when I was tuning and my right ear is still 1/2 deaf.

wow it hit 9800
i think you should do something about that prop clearance

or was that on the trailer
I hope not because that like putting your car up on a trolley and saying it can do 150mph on the speedo

Its not about not respecting 550s i think they were a great ski

Its more the fact that you are saying it can blow of a superjet , sxr of the same tuned spec

What I said, and have said since June when the pink ski did this, is that it outran a stock SXR. Of course a built 800 motor vs a built 550 will have a distinct advantage - something about displacement I think.

This particular ski I don't have a permanently mounted tach. So yeah, backed into the water on the trailer is how you tune a boat. The pump needs to have a load on it to do any kind of tuning. On my other boat with the permanent tach, I have noticed it lags top R's on the water by about 500 RPM compared to what it does on the trailer. Additional ineffeicencies and hull resistance slow it down. However, tuning to max RPM's on the trailer is still the right way to set up the carbs. If it don't run on the trailer, it wont on the water either.

If I ever get the bugs worked on on the 1989 boat, I'll need a new tach. It has rev'ed out the 10K of the tiny tach a few times. The tach wacks out and goes blank. My ears ring like a rock concert. I would not be surprised if it was pushing 11,000 RPM. It is PJS T-3 550 reed cylinder.

Prop clearance? Yeah funny. The pink boat pushes a 17 Skat and it leaps out of the water, literally, without a wake...but then I'm only 150 LBS.

Anybody out there have a manual for the Vilder? I picked up a brand new one off ebay last summer for my squarenose project, but it didn't come with any instructions......
I really need the wiring directions for hooking it up and wiring in a bar mounted switch for changing curves...
Also, I'm going to use a Jetinetics lightened flywheel with it. Anybody have any experience with this combo?
Thanks!!!!!!!!

I can prob help with that. The black and yellow wires are the curve switch wires. Open is curve 1, connected is curve 2, so just hook up a switch to it.

Also, when wiring, you'll notice 2 red wires, these are just power wires as normal. The good thing about the Vilder is that it doesn't use a ring terminal for an earth, so you can just plug the wire in an existing female earth.
