Hey, on the ski I recently bought it came with a set of tubbies already partially installed. I am about to tear them off to install the correctly but I was first wondering the difference between the old tubbies and the new tubbies destroyers.
Thanks.

I am definitly reusing them. I wasn't asking to decide whether to swap or not, I just want ro know the differnce.

When you say as low as possable. To what refernce point are you refering to. Currently the tops of them are all the way up under the bond rail. Do you have any pics of them mounted in a good place. I will be starting this project this weekend since all my fiberglass gets here tomorrow. Thanks.

Not only are Destroyers incredibly esay to install, they are wider up in the nose area where its needed. The wider nose foot print is especially helpful for surf riders as it helps keep the nose up when coming off a steep wave face. The old style Tubbies end 6" back from the front of the ski. IMO don't reuse the old Tubbies. If they are reusable sell them on ebay and ride your ski with no sponsons at all until you can afford some Destroyers. In the long run, you'll be glad you did.

I think the destroyers are too big...makes the ski ride too nose high and you cant set your rail as easily at speed...but hey what do i know??

even if u liked the destroyers, they arnt 300$ better...or even if u sold your old ones for 200$ they arnt 100$ better...

That sucks, well if the regular tubbies end 6" back from the front of the ski then I guess i have the destroyers because mine are a good 24" long. I will through a pic up on here tonight after work.

If you had destroyers, you'd know it. They are bolted to the hull.

There are four possible Tubbies:
Tubbie 1
Tubbie 2
Tubbie 3
Tubbie Destroyers

These are screwed threw them into the hull. Then the guy said he glasses over them but I now relized that he screwed them in then bondoed over them and painted to make it look right. This is what sparked my fiberglass overhaul.

That's how the Tubbie 1, 2, and possibly 3 were installed. Blowsion supplied stainless wood screws with them. You didn't have to use the screws, but they helped push the sponson against the hull while the glue dried.
The Destroyers are bolted to the hull, not screwed. No glue.

make sure you put fresh pour foam behind them before you reinstall and shape it up nice..the key is to remove some of the foam around the edges so the glue sticks to the fiberglass not just the pour foam.....i have a couple tubes of the bostic glue you need to instal ill sell u cheap if u need it...brand new never opened

Here are my thoughts, reason for the question. Since I am reinforcing, reshaping, some new foam, and glassing all over the ski anyways I was kinda thinking about making the tubbies that are curently on it larger/wider and lowering them on the hull.

Yes you can, you just have to get used to them. You would be a prime candidate too Andrew (Not that YOU need it). Tubbie Destroyers mainly help with handling/surf riding, there not necesarrily an advantage (although they do not take away) from ariel manuvers like BR's and BF's.

This will work, if you want to take the effort (which may be easier since your ski already has tubbies installed) Use two part shapeable pour foam to add length and width to the front section of the existing sponsons. Leave release at the back of the sponson alone.

ive ridden plenty of skis with them that were setup exactaly the same as mine, the only difference being destroyers instead of tubbie ones..when im coming into a turn i push down on the nose to get the rail set..i like the bow to be able to sink in a little when im initiating a turn...i dont pearl very often unless I totally mess up so i dont need the extra width/stability...i want my ski to be able to transfer form rail to rail as easy as possible..it needs to be as narrow as possible but wider/rounder than stock ..if you are just doing one turn per wave it dosnt matter as much but if i do a turn off the top and the wave is closing out i will try to immeditatly change direction mid face and go back up to hit it again...i need the bow to dig in a little to get that direction change..my point being that the tubbie 1s are more than capable of keeping you from pearling and providing a rounder rail than stock which allows the ski to track when layed over...

see 1:05 in this video it will show you what im talking about regarding the nose digging in mid face...

jus installed destroyers on my build lastnight, real easy. u pushed em up to the bond line, measure like 37.5 inchs from the back of the hull an slide tubbie up to, drill holes an bolt on. an they almost sit flush wit bottom, maybe 16th inch up.
