tried to start new motor/ nothing happens

i put this motor in a ski for the first time. i hook it up and nothing happened.
everything on the ski is used but new to me. i parted this ski together so i have no idea what is actually good or not.
i tried another battery and different start/stop assembly and still nothing. checked the fuse in the ebox, was good but tried another anyways. when i switched the start/stop assembly with a different one, the starter sounded like it spun for no more than 2 seconds and then nothing. cant get it to do anything with either assembly. (and yes the lanyard was on)

so what are the 1st things i should check?

pull the black/white wire and jumper the red/brown to the ebox. if it bumps over it's the start/stop switch. if it doesn't bump over check for voltage between the starter connection and the battery ground while pressing the start button. if you have voltage it's the starter if you don't it's probably the solenoid. there's a test for the solenoid too.

check for continuity on the battery cables while you're at it..

it's not the coil.

to test the solenoid you hook up the brown wire to power and the black wire to ground and you should get continuity across the lugs.

check battery voltage first.

fully charged is 12.6 Volts or MORE.

if its less than that, charge the battery.

once you have 12.6 battery voltage,
disconnect the red/brown connector near the E box.
reach down in the end going to the E box, red wire lug should have battery voltage on it, when you ground the other meter lead on an engine bolt.

if it doesnt, your fuse is bad, or you have a broken circiuit somewhere between battery and E box ( big red wire)

if you have battery voltage on that red wire lug in the connector near the E-box, reach down in that connector with needle nose pliars and touch both connectors, engine should spin

if it doesnt, youve got ( in order) bad solenoid ( relay), bad starter cable, bad starter, or locked up engine or pump.

thanks for the replies. before i got the motor, an msd enhancer was installed in the ebox by a local shop. i just opened the ebox and i noticed that there are 3 wires inside it that are not plugged to anything. is this normal? one is a red wire that comes out of the enhancer and the other two are black wires that come off the bolt located right next to it. i have never installed an enhancer and have no idea where all the wires go.

first, see the photo.

touch those two terminals together with a screwdriver and let us know what happens.

( assuming you have a decent battery voltage)

this is what dude above was trying to get you to do ( jump the solenoid)

the pink wire should be disconnected, it goes to the over heat sensor that you probably don't have anymore. one black wire might also go to the overheat sensor, I don't remember for sure. check the solenoid, coil and CDI for a missing connection. they're probably missing one.

this might help.

do you have a test light? that works and is simple.

anyway just take a screwdriver and connect the two posts on the starter solenoid, be ready it should arc and crank the starter. go do it now I'll wait...pacing...pacing...anything?

There are only three possibilities here, either you don't have a ground wire connected to the starter, the positive or negative starter cable is bad or the starter is bad!

I would try both of those starters on a bench with some jumper cables then.

Something fishy goin on here.
