heres some pics of my ideas on venting for the hood
both rear vents are 3" pvc cut to fit and glassed watertight on the top and bottom so the water can flow right through and i added 2 more breather holes (couldnt hurt) more air the better:haha:
those long pieces are rough patters i made with 2 layers of thin glass to have something to mold to the top for the final outside glasswork
ill whip up some handholds next

keep in mind the hoods shortened around 4in

uhhhh... did you do a search on squarenose hood modifications???

That crazy thing ya got going there is not going to work well....
You don't want the intake up that high, because as soon as the ski flips over it will suck water into the hull and sink it.... All you needed to do was remove the liner and replace it w/ another liner and cut a couple holes in the back of the hood... As well as capping off the top holes w/ a couple pieces of glass...

My advice to you would be to scrap that hood, then get a new one. After that, search the site for the some 50 hood mod threads there are about this and follow the advice... It will save you hrs of labor

This reminds me....a friend of mine & Phill's recently started modding a Squarenose hood.
He started by removing the liner - of course.
Instead of just glassing over the top intakes, he cut them out and then glassed that shut.
He took those cut-out vents and put them into the back part of the hood and glassed them in there. Looks very sano - just like it's supposed to be there.

I've been there, but with slightly more comical results. I just picked up a SJ and was going to practice buoys with my buds. We got out there, hit a couple rounds, and then took a break, where I removed my tether from my arm (still attached to the bars).

You see where this is going.

Well, time to fill up; I'm going back! I jumped on it and wanted to zoom away in cool fashion on my sweet new ski. I did zoom away; I started the boat and it frickin' bolted. Spring snapped. There was a huge rock wall 150 ft ahead. I was hanging on like a rag doll duct taped to the handlebars because I was damned if I was going to let my new boat be smashed to smithereens. Yes, I said smithereens. So I flailed along attempting to get it to turn, which it did. Now it was bucking bronco time. I was hanging on with one hand, being dragged on my back, thrown around in circles as the thing turned and went straight whenever it wanted at full throttle.

I managed to get the damn thing unhooked and as the pump came out of the water I muscled up and flipped my then somewhat in shape body over to grasp the start/stop switch and bullseyed the tether. Pulled it.

Once I caught my breath, I could hear everyone laughing at me from the shore and from the group I left.

Friends. They're always there to laugh and ridicule.

:highhorse: <----what I looked like.

Yeah uhhh, your hood is Facked man, you totally screwed it up. You cant have those vents on top like that, especially those big 90 degree 3 inchpieces, your skis gonna do a sub and never come home.

1 more thing, I just wanted to thank you for some high quality entertainment. Ive been sitting here laughing with some ppl and some other board members at how fast your ski is gonna sink with that hood. thats about as radical as putting pink streamers on the end of your bars. Sorry to be so mean, but I wanted to be truthful and not see you waste all that time on your hood, cuz its shot....seriously. Just stop while your ahead.
