Custom/Hybrid The making of my "Feral" hull...

So I'm doing it regardless of what anyone thinks... The hull will be made completely out of carbon and epoxy resin and will be vacuum bagged for added strength and lightness. My plan for this hull is too add and subtract certain aspects of a variety of hulls out there to better suit my specific needs. If you know me, you're probably thinking my specific needs are twisted and screwed up needs which is probably pretty accurate.

My goals for this hull...
I want it be around 6' in length
Super wide tray
Large engine bay
Ease of maintenance and accessibility
I'd like to get it around 50 lbs but strength will come first so we'll see

So without delaying any longer... Here is the start.

The mold was created and the carbon was cut. Additional plies were added in high stress areas to help prevent cracking and tapered off to help prevent high stress concentrations. Areas where I've cracked hulls in the past got smoothed out to help the loads flow through the hull better.

Called over some riding buds to help lay it all up yesterday. Thanks guys! I couldn't believe how smoothly it all went with the added help.

Check out all that excess resin absorption!

Kept the vacuum on it until I had cooked the piss out of it. Then cooked it some more this morning just for reassurance.

I fought it for 30-45 minutes but it finally came out of the mold and here she is... These pictures were taken minutes after it came out of the hull so it obviously needs some clean up. The gray is primer that ripped off of the mold. Just for the record, I have absolutely no intention of making this a visual carbon hull. It will be painted.

No chance by Christmas. Even Daytona will be a push because I haven't completed the bottom deck mold yet. I've been dragging my feet a lot these last couple months on the top deck. I get demotivated fast when I can only work for an hour or two and then wait a day or two for everything to cure. I only have a single car garage and I make the mold in the garage to cut down on the mess and smell inside the house. With it being really cold, I may make a real push on the bottom deck so I don't have to get in a cold car in the morning...lol.

It was cool seeing how the Vaccum bag process worked . Hats off to John for stepping out on an EXPENSIVE limb taking on this project .
