The impossible

After 6 years of riding reguardlessly every weekend from memorial day to laborday or even more. I noticed it became routine and jetskiing died off soon after college began

I thought id never make it though my first semester...Im on #5 now.

This summer however...ive ridden 10 minutes. Sure id like to be out on my ski being the only badass on the water for the day. But ive come to realize that there are more important things than jetskiing ( which used to be everything to me)

Now I have been sitting at home for the last 6 weeks studying my ass off for organic chem! ( a class i will never use, but will allow me to do an internship next summer) So looking into the future i figured id take some time off and bust this mofo out in 6wks.

Even though im not riding, Im still getting a high from "hopefully" Passing what i thought i couldnt ever do this coming Friday

congratulations man... jet skiing is part of life... school means you get a job that will help pay for that part of your life....

... best to get your schooling done while you are young.. jet skiing will always be there waiting for you

Its OK. This hobby/sport have high turnover rates for various reasons. If college is ending your participation just think about taking a job where there's no water around. Or when you have a baby and get married.

Katie is also back in collage, adding another degree to her masters that she already has aquired. She is now going into biology and she currently works 40 hours a week and night classes 4 days and every other Saturday biology and physics . It is very tough and not a lot of time for ski's.

I am very proud of her!

I'm not condoning poor performance in school by any means but a professor told me something in college that my friends and I later proved to be correct... "Grades can help find an initial job out of college but grades have no effect on your salary or your job after about 2 years."

Whether it's jetskiing or not, make sure you're doing something you enjoy or you'll be ready to quit everything in no time.

unless your going to school to be a Doctor, Nurse, Lawyer just about any job can be learned by on the job training. Employers do look for education for one reason to see if you can learn anything.

BK I somewhat agree with that, but I do know these days we only hire degreed engineers.

Some of the best people do come up through the ranks though and I wish we could go back to that. A good rounded engineer is one that has also worked with his hands as well with his brain.

I worked in a production plant for 3 years (Phifer Wire Products - You have their products in your house most likely), Most of the engineers there would design stuff and implement it without ever working our machines. Great ideas, but that was it. Poor execution because of lack of working knowledge of the equipment.

I agree about engineering degree's. There are some disciplines that yes, the degree is required.

Funny story, there was a hotel being build here (Holiday Inn Express), When the footings got completed and the main slab poured, the Superintendent started looking at the drawings for the walls. This building is about 7 stories or so. There were no structural steel post between floors, no concrete pillars designed. Just the metal stud walls. The slab above was to sit on the steel studs. As soon as they saw this the project got halted. (How the drawings were ever approved I will never know, not in my field) I know some heads rolled on this one.

I agree completely that almost all professional jobs now require degrees. Many jobs are beginning to even require advanced degrees from the start. However, the guy with good charisma in the interview and a broad knowledge with a 2.0 GPA is typically going to get the job over someone with a 4.0 who can't grasp a concept outside of a book. I've worked in engineering for about 4 years now and I used to work with engineers that were hired up from mechanics without degrees. I will admit that these people were very knowledgeable and very helpful when asked about past experience but almost every one of them lacked the ability to think outside of the box and come up with new ideas. I will also admit that I currently work with engineers who are very good at thinking outside the box and have been employed longer than myself but have absolutely NO concept of what is physically possible. They come in all shapes and sizes... My main point to the OP was try to fall in the middle somewhere. Sounds like he's got it covered since I assume he's worked on jetski's though.

Organic chemistry SUCKS!!!!!! Hardest class ever and I went on to get a masters degree afterwards. We used to say C=PA(physician's assistant)

yess its kid of depressing, Im taking the degree route for the job security aspect of things...right now is the best time to be in college due to the job market right now.

I am in no way a 4.0 student. However i put the time in to understand what im doing. My area of study is Turf Grass Science. If i work that into my Lawn Business that Specializes my area of work...Anyone can cut grass which means job security is not that high. I could lose all my customers tomorrow.....will I? I do Quality work which keeps them coming. My experience comes from there! and more will come

Now this Degree wil allow me to do an internship which will be anywhere in the US.

But the whole aspect of this thread On a happy ending( not the chinese kind) is that i thought id never be able to get through this hard of a course.

And to add got a test back today class avy was a 59....guess who got a 65.5

My company hires only degreed engineers. Thousands of people that have neither designed nor built anything, and never will. The handfull that can actually do it end up leaving in disgust.

Branden, I thought the same thing today, man. i haven't gone riding at all this year... except for a competition. Last year, I went riding 2 times a week. Now I've only ridden 6 times this year. During the winter, I focus on school, no skis. This summer, I'm working 60 hours a week, saving up for who-knows-what. Growing up sucks, lol.

Guess I better bring the ski up next week after all so we can go ride before you loose your mind!

I actually kind of understand what your saying. As you already know, I start college in august, cutting my jet ski season a couple months short. Surprisingly, I'm not even bothered about that. Jet skis are great, but I'm excited for a new experience. Skis will still be here in 4 years when I'm done and right now I have to enjoy this time in my life. Hopefully after I'm done school I can score a gnarly job and build a sick ski!!

I loved O -chem also! I got an A. Funny I sucked at Calculus also, you must be right brain dominant too! Looking at the big picture though, after college I moved to Oceanside and now I ride almost every day! Stay in school, it will pay in the long run.

I am pretty sure that all those Mexicans mowing the grass outside at 9:00am hold some degree in Biology.
I can't know since I got the MS in Physics, and they don't speak any Albanian.

I hated chemistry.

Always got straight A's in any math classes, whether they be Calculus or anything else.
