SX/SXi/SXi Pro SXR Factory Dry pipe in a SXI hull

how hard is the Carbon Fiber process? and whats needed to do it? looks sick!

The carbon fiber is very easy to lay, easier than glass I think. The only thing you have to be careful is not to pull the weave. I used 3:1 epoxy resin and 2x2 5.7 ounce carbon. You don't need anything to different than glass, I used a foam roller instead of a brush to lay the resin and smooth it then went over it with a stainless resin roller to remove air bubbles. Vaccume bags would be nice for strength and the lightest possiable part but I'm not to that level yet. Getting a glossy, smooth finish was the hardest thing, took me about 10 coats of clear and a bunch of sanding.

Man I love that CF hood and fuel door. Did you make them yourself? How much would it cost to get one on my ski?

Ya, I did it myself. They are not full carbon, just lay overs. If the pipe works good I will use this hood as a mold and make a full carbon one in a month or so. Then nose peice would be cool too in full carbon, but I think it would be pretty hard to get a good mold off of. I think the lay over is better on the nose peice. I may still try to make one though.

that is one sweet sxi man. how much more power would a factory dry pipe make than a factory wet pipe. my cousin has the wet pipe on his sxr. are dry pipes unreliable?

Thanks! I like the dry pipe over the wet on the sxr myself and don't think the wet works as well. As for relibity issues I think it comes down to the way its setup, like slightly changing the position of the lord mounts and a flexiable coupler like I designed. Both of those changes provide a less rigid mounted pipe and eliminate cracking. This thing is going to be abused!

I finally got to ride it wednesday and it ran very well, even with a poorly tuned carb! Got a bunch of jets coming so it will be spot on soon.

509freerider I joined this forum just to tell your your chits siiick bro. I love it.

I live in CDA. Good to see some locals on these forums.

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum fearmywrx. I'm a Subaru/vw tech if your ever in a pinch.

Thanks! Yeah Im a greentree mechanic. I do have a couple friends that know their way around pretty well. One of which whole worked for subaru at the dealership as a mechanic for 7 years. We are good buds now since with all the high performance parts we both have somethings always going wrong ha.

Thanks! PM me sometime, usually out on Cda lake on weekends and Newman lake mid week.

Yeah Im totally down. Your going to have to give me a little bit of time to get familiarized with the sport first ;) My family has been owners of PWC's our whole lives, snowmobiles, boats ect but I just spend a decent amount of my tax return on my first stand up. Ive ridden before just wanted to get my own so I bought 96 SXI with all the goodies. Its down in cali and will be up here the end of June. Me and that ski are going to be best friends all summer long till I have to go down to Moscow to continue my college career. I usually ride on Lake Pend Oreille up in standpoint. We've got a lil place on the lake.

That's cool! I was planning on making a few trips to Pend Oreille this summer, have some friends in Sandpoint with wake boats that are going to hook me up with some V-wake sessions. Always wanted to ride out by Hope on a windy day, those waves get huge and by the Long bridge, seen some surf rideable waves there breaking over the sand bar.

Oh by hope it gets intense because some of the larger boats are stationed over there which can make some pretty intense waves. I remember hitting a wake of a 40+ foot 2/3 story boat that was just getting started before it plained around hope on one of our older Seadoo XP 92 I believe. The pilot of the boat actually stopped I was getting so much air he though I was going to hurt myself and quite frankly I surprised I didn't.

But our house is in the bay or area between the long bridge and the rail road tracks. Personally I dont' like the chop to much even though you can mow right through it on an RXP like a tank. It's kinda cool but it's so constant it'd be harder to get air off it it plus you get a lot of spray from the wind and the waves. Now on a stand up you might be able to hit the wave better due to the length of the craft but that'd wear my legs out awfully quick.

Nice! Know right where your at, out off Bottle Bay rd. I hate the chop, but with the right wind conditions that lake can actually get surf. The best I have seen is late summer when the lake is lower at the north end of the long bridge, gotta have a strong west wind though, I was wishing I had my ski that day! Out around Hope would be fun with a north wind, I have been in my boat out there in 10ft plus waves and have seen them bigger. I run a auto/residental/ commercial glass company in Sandpoint so I am usually up there every day. Know the area really good!

Yupp, right off bottle bay rd. Your right, I've been our boat once where the waves were pretty dang big where there really was no such thing as cruising speed. It must have been a couple years ago and it had the rhythm and movement of the ocean. If I had to guess it would have been 5.5ft +/- 1 foot. That was more towards the hope area though closer to the sub base part.

Well its sure mighty cold, Just went snowmobiling Sunday and all the run off goes directly into that lake so its going to be a while haha. The good part is this part of the lake is pretty shallow so warms up quick unlike the part in hope we've been referring to. This lake is the fifth deepest lake in the US, the US Navy even has a submarine testing base on it, little history for yah. The water level is really low but by the time im back in town (end of june) hopefully it will be plenty warm.

Anyways, I feel like this thead is getting wayyyyy of topic is that bad?

Finally got this beast dialed! I was having trouble getting a lean spot out of the top end running the single carb when I found a set of duel buckshot 48mm with a manifold locally for $180. Figured I would give them a shot and man I am glad I did. Took them apart, cleaned them (probably would not have had to all ready clean and like new), bolted them up, and headed to the lake stopping twice to lean them out I had them dialed and had awakened a monster! I have massive low, mid, and just stupid top end speed. I have rode a quite a few modded ski's and by far this the best all around ski setup I've been on. With the single carb I had more power all around compared to my old setup with the Coffman mod pipe. It even had a quite mellow exhaust tone than it origanally had with the Coffman (a pipe I did and still like). But after adding the duel 48's and getting them tuned it just got angry! VERY VERY HAPPY!

Edit- sorry somehow added my truck and beach cart pics also

Nice work....I will be doing the same thing soon. My Limited SXR motor needs a new home and I just snagged a cherry 99 sxi pro hull but I won't have it in my possession until summer. I let my dry pipe go but I plan on buying another one and dropping it in the sxi pro with my limited motor.

For what its worth, the coupler that comes with the sir dry pipe is only there to keep the gooey exhaust mess from leaking everywhere into your hull. It provides next to no support. Shimming it properly is key. I like how your ski turned out. It probably flies, that dry pipe is one of the best pipes made.

Just a thought, I was wondering if you think an SXR water box would fit up front? I have an extra modified stock box I could use if it manages to squeeze in there that I may use. Also, where did you purchase the big U bend exhaust tube that goes from the pipe to the silencer?

Thanks!

Thanks, I love this setup on this ski, it rips! The water box won't fit with a stock tank, but a superjet waterbox and tank with internal fill would. I was going to do it but its actually not that loud with the long sound absorbent silicone hose and resinator. Quieter than a superjet with a TDR! I had the hose custom made, its a flexiable hose. I have a SXI Pro I was going to do the same setup in but decided it was cheaper and easier to go with a triple.
