SX/SXi/SXi Pro SXR Factory Dry pipe in a SXI hull

Ok people here it is! Why? Because I can! I have been wanting to try this for a long time and finally got up the nerve to do it. It actually fits very well in the hull! The hood is where the issues arise. Even with the liner removed it will still hit the center of the hood. I am going to be making a custom hood using a stock hood, hopefully here by next week. I will cut it till it fits, glass it in with a raised and narrowed center section, then using it as a plug, mold a carbon fiber hood/liner. It will be linerless on the pipe side. The carb side with the liner will have the front and top air intake blocked off and will be drawing air from both rear openings, also going to make baffles to reduce water intake. All in all it should be better than the stock hood. I am ordering a small TDR superjet waterbox to mount in the nose and if all my calculations are correct I should be able to run a stock tank, not sure of the make yet though. The SXI tank minus nose foam looks to be a close fit. I mocked it up last night with a SN waterbox and a cart tank with tons of room to play with!

I don't know. just wanted to do it. Something different you know. I am really not impressed with the SXR factory wet pipe, we have it in a couple ski's. I have seen the dry pipe in a couple of ski's and was really impressed. I think this will wake up a already strong motor. Plus the looks.

Kinda planning on doing both. Thinking of maybe running a advent ignition with a jetnetics non charging flywheel, but not sure if I would see the explosive power of a MSD out of it? No one around here trys this stuff! I was wanting to go that route for reliabilty of using the stock e box, seems like there are alot more issues with a MSD.

just took the msd tl off my sxi. brain went out and want the reliability/charging of the stock ing. with msd enhancer and lightened flywheel for those long rides away from the beach. cool build though, working on my own custom hood myself.

I've wanted a total loss and thats part of the reason for me running this pipe, so I can access the stator cover to fix issues without pulling the Coffman mod pipe I was running. Wish I could compare a MSD total loss and a Advent with a charging/non charging flywheel side by side.

Update: Finally got everything setup and fit into the motor compartment. For the time being I am going to be using my old inline silencer. I still am going to try a Superjet waterbox in the nose and a SXR fuel, tank just have to find one. I think the inline will work well, but not sure if I am going to need more backpressure or not with this pipe? I designed and built a custom exhaust hose and coupler to work with this pipe. I think some of the cracking issues on the pipe are due to the coupler itself. The standard silicone coupler and black rubber hoses that people use with this pipe, when clamped down are too stiff putting stress on the pipe itself. I built one with a flex joint in the middle and a raised area on the outside to keep the clamps from slipping off as they are tightened. The material for the coupler is a high grade silicone with fiberglass reinforcement. Much higher quality than the standard blue hose which is polyester reinforced. The long hose is a flex hose using the same materials. It is a lined hose and I think the length and ribbing will provide the back pressure I need. Just waiting on some carbon fiber and resin now so I can finish the hood, ran out on other projects.

Here are some pics of the modded carbon wrapped test hood and nose cover. Everything is all set up and ready to run. Wanted to go out today, but friends flaked on me, not riding by myself in 39 degree water. Going to re-do the the pole pad, threw it together at 2am to ride today, and didn't do any finish work to the hoodliner other than a coat of paint. This is just a test hood if every thing works well I will mold it out of carbon. Hopefully will be able to get out on the water this week sometime.

Man I love that CF hood and fuel door. Did you make them yourself? How much would it cost to get one on my ski?
