Super Jet SuperJet

2 Sheriffs showed up on my doorstep this morning and wanted to take a Super Jet away that I just bought and registered from a dude in San Diego. I thought the ski was legit because it came with all title and paperwork. Luckily i was out riding so i didn't have to talk to the sheriff and just my wife had to deal with them and she calls me up frantic like i'm going to jail . So, I called up my CHP buddy and he looked up the hull id and no DOJ or DMV stop was connected with the ski so i started to get mad that this sheriff was trying to take my stuff that shows legit in the dmv system.

Then the Sheriff called me up and said that the guy i bought it from forged the signature on a duplicate title request and that is how he was able to sell the ski with the title. So i said, what's going to happen to my ski, and the sheriff said,"well, sorry, its going back to the owner that reported it stolen."

So, i said i have about $3k into the ski of my own parts and he said i could take all of my parts out but i had to do it tonite cuz the tow truck is coming tommorrow morning to take it away. So i was planning on doing an all nighter and taking all my stuff off.

Then the Sheriff calls me back an hour later and says that the guy i bought it from DID NOT steal it and that really what happened was that the guy that reported it stolen wasn't making his payments and so the ski got reposessed. But he still reported it stolen and so the guy i bought it from bought it at auction or from the bank or something legit and so he's not going to jail now. So now i just have to wait to see if i get to keep it or if i'm out $2500.

That's ridiculous. So the idiot reported it stolen in an attempt to rid of his debt and maybe collect on insurance..?

If it was repoed and the sold at auction or bank owned sale, then sold to you, it's yours. You shouldn't have much to worry about, but keep us updated. Sucks to have to go through stuff like this, but it's life.

Imagine if you would have pulled that all-niter to get your parts out, only to receive a phone call the next morning that it wasn't actually stolen and now you can keep it. Does SJ part removal have an "undo" button?? Crazy story man, hope it all works out.

It's a SJ i was building for my brother with some really good stuff on it. I'll keep you updated. If i show up one day and the sheriff takes it then i'll just report it stolen and i guess they'll take it away from the next guy that buys it at auction and give it back to me!!

You bought another superjet? WTF, sorry to hear about all these problems man :/ Riding tomorrow. I doubt you in because of all this BS.

Shouldn't this be a civil matter at this point? I dunno about cops taking stuff away without clear facts. I would assume a court of law is the only with the authority to issue such order.

That's crazy. If they did end up wanting it I would strip it to a shell and give it right back to them like that. Hull, pole and hood. "sure here you go"
