No Square..No Round..FX-1
Ok...Here was the test conditions...wind, about 20+ mph. Air 50 and water 49 (it was way chilly).
All went well. Sorry for no killer surf pix because it was all blown out. JoeB carved some turns to get a feel of things. (I'll leave those details up to him...He was thawing out and didn't say much after the testing).

Well it ends up I might need that bond rail. I liked it's attitude on plane. It's not nose high and does'nt porpise like befor. It's really loose and transistions nice from rail to rail until I lean forward. The nose wants to drop and pitch the boat. Oh well, I needed to know. I've already started working on the rails I cut off. Now after seeing the pics of the Rick Roy ski I thinking about bond rail shapes.

I would just try to bolt on some options w/ some fabricated pieces or just glass on some rails... You think you will need the rail all the way back??? I am thinking some type of fading toward the rear... Just thinking out loud...

Yea, think I'm only missing them in the front. The shape where the bond rail came off is the same and the cut off peices match. I've already pried the glass from the cmc on 1. I'm planing on gluing the cmc in place then I'll add the glass back.

I would think the rails act as a chine basically the further forward you stand. The real chine on the ski is much more pronounced towards the rear but fades out on the front. It must have been really really loose. Interesting design though! :Banane26:

Little work on the rails today. I separated the cmc & glass and cleaned off the glue from the cmc part. The cmc line where the rails came off will be easy to follow. I glued some foam blocks along the rail and shaped to hang the rail in place. Next I need to fill the gap and reglass.

Here's a little vid of my ride. Check out how upset the boat gets when the nose touches the water:dunno:

Marc Sickerling experimented removing the rails from a ski, he said it would roll easy and slip all over.

Verry cool idea on the shape though. Looks like it came out good.

Marc rides the LightWeigt - with rails.

I think removing the rails will make the side of the hull to flexible and it will break during the first ten rolls.

I know what he rides. I said he and Norbert had experimented with removing the rails. Though I did spell experiment wrong. And when I say it would roll, I mean log roll in the water. Without the rails it wouls slide on the side.

Not worried, not a big air type... I'm more into slow & low. My body needs to go to work the next day:biggthumpup:

I mean log roll in the water.

That's what it wanted to do. It was like trying to set the rail in foam, the more I leaned forward the deeper it would go. The water was cold enough and it was frustrating that it kept dumping me:theyareontome:

Got the bond rails glassed on and I'm ready for another go:biggthumpup: Yup... Another nice rainy & windy day, my favorite. I still have a few this to do and might not have the time today.
