Stupid ?s for Noobs/Mechanically Challenged

I noticed there are "empty" threaded holes around the engine of the SXR. Am I missing something or are these there to enable aftermarket additions or maybe a bilge pump? Just seems strange to see empty holes. :sadwavey:View attachment 75741

Something you need to remember is that these two parts (electrical box and flywheel cover) have been used buy Kaw since the 1992 750 came out.
So the empty hole in the ebox is where the over heat sensor used to sit and the unused mounting bracket on the flywheel cover is where the old style air box used to attach.

Great info thanks!!! Now, will installing footholds cause any problems with future upgrades fitting in the hull? Wet pipe etc?

AND....Is it cool to completely seal the front intake to help keep sub-water out? Or should it stay open a little? Also along those lines, do the tubes under the hood need to be that long or can they be shortened?

AND....the circular hood cap seems to have a weak seal, do they make aftermarket covers? and can I just permanantly seal that cover in?

THNKS for all the info in advance.

So Ive seen hydroturf lift wedges in a few SJs, Im not ready to add glassed holds yet, would these wedges install easily in a SXR stock tray so I can get something quick and easy to help me lift the back of my ski? And if so, whats it take to install?

I would immediately do the footholds. Nobody ever regrets it. The lifter wedges are not good at all. Yes you can completely seal the front intake, but just cut a 2nd one in the back (exactly like the first one!). Do a search for SXR hood mods....you can also completely seal the hood circle. I have ridden Kawis for 10 years and never needed it.

I'm not a fan of footholds. I'd rather run lifters
I have footholds in my surf boat (also has hydrorturf lifter blocks all the way around) but rarely use them because I switch feet when I ride. Lifters help keep my feet planted more but not locked in. Lifters also give you more postions to place your feet. Hydroturf lifts work fine but the stiched mat lifters are nicer. I suggest but a set of Jet Trim or AP designs. Here couple pix.

How do those stitched mats install? That looks exactly like what I "think" I want until Im ready for glassed holds. (Probably next winter) I just need something to dig my heels in for lift in the back and support on landings. Im just doing/learning basic tricks, nothing aerial so Id rather spend time riding and getting better with a quick fix rather than tearing my ski up learning how to glass. I also like the wedges all the way around, never seen that before. Thx ya'll!!!

Just to make sure Im clear, cut a second in the back directly behind the one in the front? .....opposite the other hole in the back?

Gonna seal my hood seal, just seems to be a leaker. I havent had any luck finding many hood mods for the sxr, lots of SJ ones, and replacements of the stock hood at the OEM website. Do most mod their stock hoods with glass/holds/seals etc, or just save up, suck it up, and buy an aftermarket full hood kit? REGARDS,
