We have been trying to track it. There was a two year lapse before the other person registered it. I don't believe that they stole it either. Who would be stupid enough to transfer a registration on a known stolen ski. Its been just over 7 years so unfortunately the statute of limitations is up on criminal charges but it would still be good to know who stole it. FWIW we also never filed a claim on the ski. It wasn't insured itself, if I filed it on my homeowners I would have payed for that ski probably twice over the past 7 years. I believe in that case though when the ski is recovered it goes back to the insurance company or its insurance fraud.

That is not fraud. In some cases you do legally get it back if recovered. The ins co doesn't own it, you do. The policy doesnt transfer ownership unless stated. Read Jo policies carefully

Sick it was found. Ride on!

errr, If they make a settlement, then yeah, they do own it, just like if your car gets totaled. You get the money and they get whats left to sell off remaining parts for salvage.

I'm not sure either way but I would guess that BK is right. I'm just glad to have the ski back. Looking around a lot has changed over the past few years ! Looks like there a ton of new goodies on the market! Wish I still had all my old parts, especially the motor in my avatar. There was a lot of time in just polishing that flywheel cover.

I bought a blaster last summer that was fishy (actually smelled of dead mice inside) due to the low price and missing HIN Numbers, the story is on this site somewhere. Came to find out it was stolen from the dealer lot way back in 1993, the PA Fish and Game officer I initially contacted is trying to grant me ownership of it, if I don't get ownership I'm out $200 and did the right thing. It is still in my possession. How long must I keep it in my possession for it to be considered mine if the authorities know about it? I'll need to get a home-built title for it.

Congrats to the OP for good guys doing the right thing!

if they tell you cannot have it, give them a bill for storage in the amount of 200$

Charge them what a storage unit would cost so that you can justify the "storage fee". It prolly has to b declared abandoned and then salvaged to title in pa. But pa is hard to get do anything like that in.

well if this isn't a threadjack then I don't know what is. Storage fee is a great idea, I doubt I will be able to get it re-registered by claiming abandoned or salvaged if it doesn't have any HIN numbers in the first place, I got the HIN number by calling Yamaha and giving them the details of a manufacturing sticker still remaining in the hull with the faintest of print. The officer was pretty cool with it but when they first came out a local LEO came out too.
