Feh - 2 strokes rule! If you think that 450F is fast ride a CR500.:bigeyes::bigeyes::bigeyes::bigeyes:

And for me, I was thinking a WR250 - I have the BB SJ for brute power, this would just be a fun bike. I have 2 decades of hardcore dirt biking under my belt, now I just wanna have fun and stay in one piece. Although I do look back fondly at racing 125 novice class, and what a rush that was. (Back when they were ALL 2 strokes w/narrow powerbands).:woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot:

The ol' CR500 vs. new 450 debate is a pretty good one. I think there's some threads over at ThumperTalk that are worth reading.

General concensus is that the CR500 has a torque advantage, but only by a couple of foot/lbs. The new 450 will make more horsepower, but only by a couple. A healthy CR500 will dyno at 49 or 50 hp and 45 ft/lbs.

So what happens in a drag race is the CR500 will indeed pull the 450, a couple of bike lengths, but only up to about 45 or 50 mph, then the 450 gets up into its ripper mid/upper range, and it starts reeling the 500 in. A 450 will GPS at around 85 mph (!) on stock gearing.

Around the MX track, you have to be Superman to keep up with the 450- the 500 just wears you out. You can get out there on the 500 and put in some wicked fast laps, but try it for a 40 minute moto. Riding the 450, you'd have your gear off and a cold one in hand before you finished on the CR500.

(yeah, i have a 450:biggrin:)

How does the 302 stroker's power compare to a 2000 YZ250 2 stroke?:sneaky:
I rode 2-stroke 250 and even a little time on a kx 500. I love the power. Having said that the 302 works good, there is a noticable difference over the yzf 250. It hangs fine with my buddies 05 cr 250 2-stroke. I had a yz 250 2-stroke,it had a stroker kit. crazy bike.

i just sold an RPM 302 ICE Cube stroker crf....there is no comparisn to a 250f

WORD! i'd put a challenge out there to anyone to put in 5 SOLID WFO laps on a CR500 (with a track with avg lap times of about 2:00)

you better be <= 8% body fat, running marathons for fun, lean and clean.

i understand the old-timers that love their 2 strokes.... but let's get real for just a minute here...

when i get on a 2 stroke now, it feels like a toy.. like a red ryder bb rifle... a 450 feels like a loaded shotgun!!! BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHP!

:hail:

either way you'll shoot your eye out

I'm going to sell my dirtbike. I'm turning chicken, or something, but the penalty for my next get-off is always in the back of my mind. We mostly ride the woods, not nice groomed MX tracks with no rocks, and the punishment factor for mistakes is high. I upped my average speed around my typical 40 mile loop by almost 2 mph the other day... if I let my focus lapse for 1/100th of a second, I'll be augering in with bone crushing force. No bueno.

Here's hoping that the ski will be lower impact. It just about tore my finger off my right hand, just from hanging on- I can't ride it worth a dang, yet. I need to see about some new grips, maybe a new throttle. Maybe I just need to learn how to ride it.

edit: I'm having some trouble returning to form after a fractured pelvis- a minor mistake on a warm up lap was all it took. Maybe I'll post some pics in the carnage section, but yech! I can barely look at 'em, myself. Ugly!

THAT'S the kind of face slap I need. The cost of attention lapse on the ski is usually just a swim.:woot::woot::woot:

Maybe I can get a ride on a CF hulled 1000 soon - Gotta be WAAAAAY better than a 450F.

Yeah, you wouldn't be able to tune the carbs on your ski if you were layed up with a broken pelvis:purr::purr:

I think the safety factor depends on how you ride - If you try a roll and flop on your side you may get bruised (flatwater) to maybe a busted rib (ocean) or worse, depending. If you just have fun but stop short of rolls & flips (like this old man :cat05:) you usually just come home tired & sore if it's been a big surf day.

On bikes, what if you come up short on a double & case it in? Or if you're just blasting thru the woods & run into a tree? Much more potential for injury.

Also a lot more of a rush....:frown:
