Oside crew rides regularly. Tours depart weekday morings from Oside harbor about 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. on weekends.

Board member 227 and member ridethelip ride quite a bit. I finally got a ski together so I'm ready to go more.
When you plan or ridding? dates?

There’s really only two main spots in So Cal for surf riding, Oceanside and Pismo. (Pismo is really more central Cal) There are other spots but unless you’ve got a local to guide you, you probably won’t find them.

Here’s some info with Pros and Cons for both-

Oceanside
Located in North San Diego on a military base.
Average Water temp between 60-70 degrees
Average surf size 2-4+

Pros
Best quality surf, rarely gets windy
Has approx 16 mile stretch of beach which is pretty much deserted as beach access is restricted to general public
Easy access- you launch off your trailer on a paved ramp

Cons
Although you launch off your trailer on a paved ramp, you have to ride approx 2 miles of open ocean to get to the surf-(no big deal)
Accessable on your ski only (you cannot drive your car on the beach)

Pismo
Located in Central Cal on a State Park
Average Water temp between 50-60 degrees
Average surf size 4-6 (can get bigger)

Pros
You can drive your car and camp directly on the beach
You ride your ski directly in front of where you’re parked and you can take a break on the beach between rides
You can ride a motorcycle or quad on the beach when the surf is blown out

Cons
Usually windy with poor quality surf (The locals know the best times to ride)
You have to tote your ski through sand to launch-(no big deal)

Hope this helps. Its best to PM a local for some inside tips when you come into town

Ventura Harbor is pretty much the same conditions of Oceanside. Minus the rarely windy part, and waves this last season or two have been crap. Where we ride a person can park their car out on the main road and make like a 1/4 walk to the beach.

Yeah now that you mention it Andrew has told me a little about that spot. Sorry to leave it out, that’s why I put in the “Other spots that the locals know of” clause. There are also a few other spots down here (San Diego) area that fit into that category. Any way post up your Pros and Cons of your spot.

there are also 2 other spots that we go to...

Drop down - outside Malibu

and

Oil Piers - just past Ventura harbor

Drop down is a nice spot cuz no one is around usually, you have to have a bunch of people to get the skis down and up the side of the cliff. we have a great rope system that we made to ease the process.

Oil Piers is waaaay easier to get the skis down to the beach as long as you have a beach dolly and a couple motorcycle ramps. You can park right down near the beach and the are several breaks that you can ride.

When do you plan on being out here? Might be able to round up the crew to head out there.
