Thanks guys for adding the Smashing Pismo Freeride and Beach Party to the x-h20.com freeride tour!
Lisa Price is heading up the organization for this event. Remember this is going on at the same time as the Freestyle Surf Slam contest, but will be at at different location.
Below are some quotes from Lisa over at PWCT, she has asured me that she will be over here to answer all questions quickly as well.
This is gonna be great! Looking forward to seeing all you guys again!

Also, Ross and Joe have asked me to spearhead the Smashing Pismo Beach Party as this will be an important weekend for not only the ride/get together, but in representation of our sport to the general public. This venue has a built in spectator base which will give our sport very high profile/exposure. If you've never been to the Oceano Dunes, you will not believe how perfect this site is for this event. It's not an exaggeration to say there are literally thousands of folks who use the 6+ miles of dunes and beach for camping and recreational activity - this is a dream come true for me, and has been their vision for a while now. So glad Joe and Co. pushed forward and are making this a reality.
It's also important to note that the Smashing Pismo Beach Party will be located on a different part of the beach from the competition (probably a couple of miles up the beach). We'll have to take care in not entering the permitted ride zone for the competition - but the annual ride/campout will still maintain a relaxed, fun and laid back atmosphere that we've all enjoyed over the last couple of years when Joe Gesicki and I put it on.
Should be really great as you'll be able to ride the better part of the 6+ miles stretch of beach, and then cruise down and watch the world's top freeriders compete in the super clean surf of Pismo/Oceano Dunes. There are other events being held in conjunction with this freeride, so it's probably a good idea to secure accomodations as soon as possible.
Below are some very useful links - check them out, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks!

There are hundreds of acres of sand dunes immediately behind the event venue, and you're going to LOVE the ability to spectate, then ride the dunes, then toss your ski in and ride the surf yourself.

A little background for those who have never visited the area:
Oceano (the official town where the event will be held - part of the "5 Cities" area, including Pismo Beach - my hometown) is a small coastal community located on spectacular Highway 1 in San Luis Obispo County. With an ideal, Mediterranean type climate year-round, Oceano enjoys over 300 days of sunshine per year! The terrain is made up of gently rolling hills and sand dunes, lush foliage and vineyards. There are lots of things to do in the area, but the biggest attraction is the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area. Here the dunes are recognized as being the most extensive coastal sand dunes in the state. This 1,500-acre area not only allows people and horses on the beach, but also four-wheel drive vehicles, all-terrain vehicles and dune buggies! In Oceano, driving on the beach has become a sporting event! The beaches and nearby state parks and lakes in the area offer an abundance of outdoor recreation. For a real treat, take the breathtaking scenic drive up Coast Highway 1 to San Simeon and the famous Hearst Castle. Take your time along the way stop to stop and explore some of the coastal towns’ many antique and specialty shops. Oceano has lots of character with small businesses, hotels and bed and breakfasts, and a multitude of restaurants.
Surrounding areas: Grover Beach, (1.3 mi), Pismo Beach, (3.8 mi), Nipomo, (8.5 mi), Avila Beach,(8.6 mi), Arroyo Grande, (12.0 mi), San Luis Obispo, (12.2 mi), Los Osos, (19.4 mi)
A Mild, Mediterranean climate describes the central coast of California that lies between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Cool ocean breezes keep temperatures from becoming too hot in the summertime. Low clouds and patchy fog are common on summer days, but it almost always burns off by midday. Conditions are very dry, and the occasional summer thunderstorm produces so little precipitation that range and forest fires often result from lightening strikes. In winter, the semi-permanent Pacific Ocean high help keep the weather beautiful. Many visitors take advantage of the spectacular mild, sunny weather the central coast has to offer fall through spring.
Hotels aren't really all that scarce, but since that weekend is also the annual Clam Festival, and Pismo is such a popular destination, you should call and book your rooms as soon as possible.
Here's some info on the Clam Festival that'll be going on at the same time as this great event:
October 21-22 : 60th Annual Clam Festival
Join the fun in downtown Pismo Beach. A parade on Saturday morning kicks off this annual event. Followed by a carnival, clam dig, music and food. Famous Clam Chowder Cook-off. For further info contact the Chamber of Commerce at 800-443-7778
