Super Jet Ski shuts off randomly but starts right back up?

I've got an electrical problem where my ski just shuts off at random times while riding as if i hit the stop button. But then it fires right back up when i start it. Ski is running mint and it will shut off a couple of times in an hour of riding. Once yesterday it did this but would not fire back up, brought it over to the beach and it started up there and rode home with no problem. Thoughts?

62t electronics, new zero lightened flywheel, msd enhancer, JSS plug wires.

I would bet money that it is your start/stop switch. They oem connectors near the ebox suck, i have had times were you jiggle the connectors and it will start up. Check the connectors, if those are ok the start stop switch is bad, do a continuity check of the switch

Yeah, I had a similar problem on one of my skis. Took apart the start stop (like the actual button) and found all kinds of goop buried under there. Sometimes you can clean and rebuild, sometimes they're just corroded so bad you have to replace or get parts.

Also can try some Dielectric compund inside the connectors. May have some moisture inside.

This sounds rediculous but are you running resistor plugs? Pretty sure it doesnt apply to skis but its worth a try. My paps wasnt running resistor plugs on his skidoo and for whatever reason it was dying then coming back to life, same as your ski. Switched to BR9ES from B9ES and bam problem fixed

I'd put my money on the stop circuit, I've seen that exact symptom more than once. Disconnect the connector with the black and white wires and give it a try. Be sure to turn the idle all the way down so it dies if you fall off. I ran one for a full year like that, haha. Good luck!

Doesn't apply to Yamaha motors with non-digital ignitions.

Those symptoms are the start stop switch 95 times out of 100, take it apart, grease and clean, if it persists you probably have a bad wire on it. Usually the tether switch in my experience.

I had similar problems to what you've described. It ended up being the enhancer on its way out. Not saying its not the ss switch but something else to consider?

I have the same problem right now. My ski shut off on me today and wouldnt fire back up but it would crank. I disconnected the black connection and boom starts right up. This is my second S/S I'm putting in the MSD weather packs tomorrow hopefully it helps.

It's not always the connector (for me, it usually isn't). More often, it is the switch mechanism itself. The copper corrodes. I've also seen the wires chafe halfway up the pole.

Cleaned up the ss switch copper contacts. One had some corrosion on it and i used dielectric grease over them before re assembling. I'll let you know if the problem goes away next time i ride. Thanks!

check the wires also to be sure you haven't wore through the unsulation somewhere. I had the same symtoms once and turned out to be just that. Bare spot on my wire leads right at the water box.

Make sure you are using a Yama tether, if your using a buddies kawi that will happen, Also just take apart you s/s switch and clean it with some carb cleaner, Watvh out for the little pieces that get shot out! Your SOL if you loose any

I fixed mine today.
1) I got rid of the stock connectors by the Cdi and put in MSD weather packs.
2) I took apart my S/S and low and be hold it was corroded to all hell (ended up replacing) it was the key switch that was destroyed.
3) lastly any butt connectors I used heat shrink ones.

Hope any of that helps it fixed my problem

Might be a long shot but had my stator go bad and it kept doing this to me. Moisture got into the stator.

Butt connectors will last you one season in the salt. Buy a spare now. OEM or weatherpacks work the best for our application.

Butt connectors even with shrink tubing dont work. I ran a short harness switch and everytime the nose went under and salt water would go on those connections the ski would die. I like good japanese bullet connectors placed carefully to where water will not be on them so much.
