ski runs like s#*t in salt water

Got a new sj and ran great. took it to destin and rode buy the jetties. ran fine for about ten minutes then just started boggin down. completely lost power. took it back to the condo and hooked it up to the hose to wash it out and after about a minute it ren fine. brought back to the river when i got home and it bogged for two minutes and has been fine ever since if you have had this problem or know what will fix it so i can ride in the salt water some times. would appreciate it thanks

aight so that should fix it cause i am going to orange beach the 7th through 12th and if it dont work im gonna be pissed!! Na man just kinddin but that should solve it.

aight man thanks for the help my cousin lives in hokesbluff might be coming up there can't decide if i want to go stay with them or go ride with some people that invited me to orange beach but not sure if i can bring my ski up there if i can prob just gonna stick it in the back of the truck. but mycousin is 110 lbs scronny lil guy not shure he'll be much help.

still have to debate it cause of my work out schedule it wouldn't matter but i was out three weeks due to a laseration to the bone in my shin split it wide open. so mi have to make tweenty i don't know man

sounds good. when you ever get this way, hit me up. with a little advance notice, we could make it a nice little ride with 10 or 12 skis running.

I had the exact problem on my squarenose - ran fine in fresh water, ran like crap in salt water.

I replaced the spark plug wires and caps, and that fixed it. Apparently salt water is a good conductor so the current ran straight from the wires to the cylinder, bybassing the plug. I agree with the dielectric grease as a quick fix for this weekend.

I would like to hear what you tried and if it worked.

this is funny i was just going to post a thread with the same title, my sn does the same thing, it will run all day no prob in fresh water, but after like 10 min in the salt it runs like :):):):) sputters, and has no throttle response. take it out of the water put it on the hose runs like a champ.

For Those About To Rock
Just a simple thing!

Just a simple thing but you would be suprised how many people overlook this.
Before you put your ski in saltwater regap your plugs to 018 to .020 thousandths. This creates less resistence in your coil and sparkplug wires. The bigger the gap the more resistence the coil and wires have to overcome. The more resistence you have the more likely the spark will ark somewhere besides the spark plug and as salt water is such a good conductor any little issue, ie - plug wires and or boots that are not in the best of shape - ect - becomes a big issue = ski that don't run right
Now I'm not saying this is a cure-all for your saltwater problems but its an easy thing to do and takes little time and it just might get you up and running
