Tearing my motor down for inspection and new rings this year and noticed that one of my Boyesen three stage reeds isn't sealed on one side. It isn't laying perfectly flat like it is supposed to but is just barely open. Is this how they normally wear?

Sometimes you can turn them (flip) , I just replace them every year or sell the ski.. But there like $90 per set (x2) to replace...

I was under the impression that the positive pressure in the crankcase as the piston comes down forces the reeds closed making small gaps a non-issue. Maybe that's ok for stock engines and less than ideal but all of the reeds I've used have gaps on at least one of the pedals.
