Think I can save the crank?

You can't judge a book by it's cover, and you most certainly can't judge an engine by it's external appearance either. I expected the engine to be seized but this...OMG!!! :Eyecrazy:

On top of corrosion, the cases and water jackets were punched thru where the water froze and buckled it. Thankfully the rest of the ski was in good condition and I negotiated a fair enough price that this didn't upset me...much. :trink26:

Didn't even bother with pics of the carbs. I tossed the carbs, reeds, and complete engine into the trash bin. :wavey: Everything else cleaned up very nicely.

3rd pic shows the water jacket busted out the side,
last pic shows the holes punched out the bottom of both cylinders.

The rest of the pics show what happens when you swamp an engine and then DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!!!!!!

Thats about what Zimmy's engine looked like. It was so funny, from the out side I wouldn't have thought it was that bad, but when opened up "Holy Crap Batman". I posted the carbs under "Can these be saved?" I think the guy who sold it, told Zimmy "the starters bad" not a lie just forgot to mention the engine was used as a sand trap.

I drive right past a recycle place on the way home so it's just going in a dumpster. My time is worth more than the pennies it's worth as scrap.

It's hard to believe that these components came off the same engine...

I have a motor like that, I was going to clean it up and throw a bad crank in it and put a decent paint job on it and set it on a shelf just to look at. I even have an old unwanted girdle head. But I never did, I ended up tossing the bottom case, it had a corrosion hole eating through it.

Jetmaniac or Wavedemon have posted worse engines than that.

of course, the owners were selling them and said "it just needs a battery and it'll fire right up..."

I had already looked down the plug holes and saw some crusties. He was telling me how it would just need a rebuild and how much he figured in parts when i reached down and tried to turn the coupler. He said, "Oh, you know how to do that?" I just laughed.

"Well, that's why it's so cheap", was all he could say after that.
