So I have encountered this problem on my B1 (144 pump) and now it's starting on my my little FX1. Anyone have a cure for this? I 'm speaking of corrosion (electrolisis?) building up between the aluminum wear ring housing and the stainless liner. This was the demise of my B1 prop and drive shaft.
Scat wants $260 to re-sleve the liner!! ouch. I have a good wear ring now, but would like to prevent this from happening again. suggestions?

WSM has plastic liners in their replacements units, not as durable...but won't corrode. A few years ago one of the local ski rental place was using a all stainless housing, it was heavy but eliminated the problem completely.

The only true fix is to replace it. If its not bad and only has a few high spots, you can grind it...but this is only very temporary and if you need it for 1 weekend. Grinding on the high spots makes it thinner so the swelling happens faster.

I have the plastic WSM in one of my pwc and works fine. Riva sells an all SS units if you find yourself replacing these units often - but I think its only for the 155mm pumps (the best option for a lifetime fix).

BTW: Washing pump out isn't going to help and will this happen eventually if ridden enough times in salt. The thing that really kills it is leaving it on a dock.

Would honing every so often have any affect?
I don't think they swell uninformly all the way around, they develop high spots, so you can't really sand or hone only the high spots.

Not a bad idea about sealing it with yamabond, I'll have to do that next time I have mine out.

I think my wear ring is swolen also. When I had my stock prop in there it was fine, but when a buddy let me try out a skat super slim in my boat it made a rubbing sound. Whenever I start it out of the water or the pump unhooks it sounds like the prop is rubbing on the wear ring. It was a saltwater boat, but it is very clean. There really is no corrosion in the pump area.

I've got a new skat swirl on the way so should I replace the wear ring at the same time so I don't ruin the prop? I found a place online that sells them for $129.

Would it hurt to put the new prop in and see if it still makes that sound?
