Scary thing just happened.

I just went to start my X2 and it started reving out of control. In a panic, the stop button did not help, so I reached in and pulled the plug wires. No change, so as a last effort I reached in and made sure the throttle was shut, it finally died. This all happned in less than 10 seconds so it didn't get hot, but it was very unusuall and frieked me out. Carbon buildup? I pressure tested the motor 2 weeks ago and it was good.

Air leak. Find and fix it.
Next time give it full throttle to kill it.

Hot spots on the piston can lead to uncontrolled combustion like that.

Some other items you may want to check.

1. Was the tank low on gas? If so, fill it up.
2. Was the fuel selector turned to off? If so, you may have ran the gas out of the fuel line and it was starving for more fuel.
3. Idle speed set too high? Adjust lower.
4. Carb adjusted too lean? Adjust low speed screw out a 1/4 turn to see if the problem gets better.
5. Air leak on the intake somewhere? Spray carb cleaner when the engine is running around any of the gaskets to see if the engine speed changes. If so, you've found your leak.

All of these items can contribute to an engine running lean.

Nex time this happens, hold your ignition switch in the off position while giving the ski full throttle. Yes, that is full throttle. This will choke out the engine, causing it to stall.

I restarted it 1/2 hour later and it seemed fine, it ran great last night. I did notice my throttle cable is a little tight, and the shaft has some wear. Airleak at the shaft perhaps?

It runs 2-3 seconds longer than it needs to, and you're running it lean (because you're letting it run out of fuel)

Much better solution: Fully open the throttle.

its called "dieseliing"

pull the throttle all the way open, put your hand over the carb or punch your primer 100 times...all will kill it..

I did find, slightly worn throttle shaft, no slack in the throttle cable, loose return line connection at carb. I could hear fuel/fumes pushing out at the carb fitting when the sun was heating up the fueltank. Seems fine now, but I will be cautious. Crab
