SBT motor carnage

Well i started last season with two fresh yami 1100 motors in my exciter 220, long story short. boat overnight in the water with a clogged bilge pump and motors sat in water up to the starters until morning. I thought nothing of it. tried to fire up the boat this season and one fires right up and the other just spins the bendix.

there was water sitting in the flywheel cover. is there any way of saving anything?

you'll need a new bendix for sure, maybe a new flywheel if that one wont clean up and most likely a new stator as well.....

replace the gaskets and use yamabond or 1211 to seal it shut

but first unclog your bilge line :)

speedracer i pmed you

well good thing was the flywheel is fine there was only water in the case for about 2 months so the rust basically whipped off with a towel. I am almost scared to pull apart the other engine to see if that one got any water in it. it starts up just fine unlike this one.

were there even any gaskets on those flywheel covers? or just red rtv silicone?

......it looks like it barely stuck to one side or another.

the title of this thread isn't exactly fair to SBT ...

Their product had nothing to do with the carnage, it was all caused by letting the motor sit when it was full of water ...

I clicked thinking SBT did something wrong ... :(

The aftermarket rebuild gasket kits don't come with that gasket you could get it from yami but I don't see a need however He better do a better job sealing it up this time
If u need more help The sister site greenhulk.net has an exciter section and allot of pwc guys running the 1100's/1200's

The gasket kit was one bought from sbt and it was sealed on. it most likely came through the starter seal.

haha its labeled SBT motor carnage because its carnage inside a nice and clean SBT motor. no reason to get your panites in a bunch about it

Just remove the stator and glass bead it real good on the pickkup windings. clean the rest of it with xylene cleaner. buy a new bendix.
Silicone your O ring on your starter also.
