Super Jet Running...but how?

Out of curiosity...I unscrewed the fuse/inspection cap and found things a bit moist inside. Popping the E Box apart I found this.

My college dorm refrigerator looked better than this.

How in the world was this thing possibly running?

well my ebox was missing the ebox cap, the PO and I rode it without until I started having engine re-starting issues, then I found it was missing the cap and promptly ordered one from ebay! That box was running one hopes and magic.

That's nothing! I had a ski start cranking once in the middle of the night. Took the box apart and found that the white mung you see in aquaholic's pic had bridged between the B+ and the solenoid (energize) terminal.

I took apart every connection and component and cleaned things up. Still keeping the box open to let things dry out before the weekend.

Threw a dab of dielectric grease on all connections.

All of the grommets look to be in good shape.

I have a new gasket coming, but I don't think that's where the water was getting in.

Note: I took the plastic cover and set it upside down and then filled it with water. After a few minutes, water began to seep out of the inspection cap threads. That looks to be the culprit. The rubber Oring seems a bit dry rotted and thrashed. I'm going to flip it over and grease it and see if that cures it. Does Yamaha sell these O rings?
