so i bought a girdled riva head from another board member but i didnt realize it had non changable domes.(i didnt even realize they made these) i was gonna use the domes from my non girdled head.can anyone see a reason why i cant just use the girdled top on the non girdled body? check out the pics and tell me what you think

its also strange, the girdled head body doesnt have any o-ring grooves in it.ever seen one like this?

I'm no expert, but seems like it would work.

Does the girdled top shell have an o-ring? That is about the only angle you didn't take a picture of.

doesn't look like it to me. as you said, I have have never seen that bottom girdled shell before.

do the orings around the spark plug holes make a good seal when you fit together the non-girdled bottom and girdled top?

It may be an older model with not removable domes. Here is mine, I believe this to be one of the last made before they were discontinued. It has removable domes

Notice the different lettering and the addition of the three exhaust mounts.

Does the top portion of the girdle shell have dowel pins to keep the domes form rotating, if so it would seem it should be matched with removable domes.

I would be leary of running that; with the additional torque of the girdle bolts hanging over the non girldled portion. It may cause warpage or a leak.

something is messed up there. the body and the shell both have a clean line where the seal used to be. but from the pics it looks like neither holds the rubber oring. did some one machine it or switch it with another one. I would say it would be fine to do what you want only worry is if it bends the top and let water leak out. if it stays flat you are in business. I was wanting someone to machine the nonremoveable head domes out so I can use it like a new one.

Also seem strange that your non-girlded domes don't have anti-rotation pins.

Also, what is wrong with the bottom shell of the non removable girdled setup? wrong dome size?

Those older head cap tops and domes don't have the locking pins to keep the domes from spinning.

I've seen people use the girdled head shell with a non-girdled head cap but never the opposite way around.

I'm sure it might work considering how thick the upper cap top plate is but it won't look that cool. :cool2:

i think the body and top dont belong together.there arent even o-ring grooves around the spark plug holes.

i'd try your first solution. non-girdled bottom and girdled top. top pieces seems thick enough. the girdled bolts are only torqued to 18ft anyways.

yea, im gonna try it.i too think it will work fine with everything properly torqued.

No, mine has 0-ring grooves. But the domes are not removable. It was a great surprise when it showed up...not. I hope my new LPW top end needs 35's or I'm screwed.
