Riders getting old?

I often wonder how old the average non-couch rider is.

Am I the only one that seems to think the majority of people that ride graduated High School from 85-95?

Everybody seems to be in their late 30s. Its almost like the days of the 550s and SNs were the hay day of the sport.

Doesnt seem like people around my age (27) even know that people still ride "stand ups"

I'll be 41 in september... and getting better every year.

F yea dog! Best shape of my life at 38. I gotta work harder to keep it that way though and it goes away quick if I stop :(

I am always trying to get young inner city neighborhood kids to come try it out but none of them know how to swim! Bad parenting!

I guess Im just sick of people looking at me funny cuz I talk about going out on my jet ski. Then you know......you have to explain "yes its a stand up" then of course they have no clue people still rode them......

I think that if the two big companies would market the sport a bit more, they would sell a lot more people on the "sport"

I hate to say it but you know better than I do, you older guys are not gonna be able to ride the way you would like to forever.

Although Im sure you crazy bastards will not give up and be out there throwing out your hips and :):):):).

1st - I kinda like it better not having a millions idoits riding. Look at the public opinion towards couch riders...

2nd - I plan to ride hard core til I die!! I'd rather die doing what I love then let myself get old and have to remember how it was...

Im only 26 and can't see myself stopping anytime soon. I too like the fact that standups are a little "underground" (so you don't have to dodge idiots).

I'm 50 and I bought a ENVY hull and hope to be able to do a flatwater back flip this year, and my wife is 44 and she rides a lighten trick out SXR and there is over 20 of us all on standups that ride together. But you do get tired of hearing (do they still make standups!!)

Late 30’s would be good! I’m 46 and I learned to back flip when I was 45! I have been riding since the mid eighties though. As far as few young recruits on stand ups I think it has more to do with economics. The younger crowd would rather be on a stand up but they have no financial means to get one- Jet skiing is an expensive sport. There parents on the other hand tend to buy couch’s so the majority of the younger crowd just end up riding there parents couch. No worries here though, I like the “undergroundness” of our side of the sport. Coming from a heavy surfing back ground can you imagine if Skis were as popular as surfing? The sport (and mainly the very few riding areas we have) would be over run and ruined.

you are OLD! I am 12! :Banane25:

I agree.......if our sport really grew and became popular, I would probably start losing many of my riding spots. Some of the stuff is already illegal just not enforced.

I have seen a 50 year old 20 feet over my head upside down in Daytona.....and rolling in the Niagara!...and if he would not have moved inland I imagine he would still be killing it!!!

I am at least going that long God willing!

Im 28 and I started last year but I admit that 3 years ago I didn't even know that still made standups and I had never even seen one. I wish I would have started riding standups when I was younger, its probably my favorite hobby I have ever had, decides maybe snowboarding. Im still having a hard time getting my friends to ride, they say it hurts and there wore out the next day! Ill convert them one day!
