FX-1 Removeing The Pump Shoe

I just watched that video in your sig. Is that you? Thats with no mods to the hull? Pretty sick.

Thanks tshank! Yeah its me and no mods to the hull or the wore out motor other than carbon reeds and water bypass. The pump has a Skat 18/22 and bored nozzle.

Got quit a bit of work done tonight. The 2 part foam came in today from US Composites, very nice and helpful people their. I mixed up 3 oz of each part in a couple of 3 oz Dixie cups to play and test. It made a 1/2 gl. I wanted to make sure it was not going to mash the pipe I ran on my one way's. As long it has room to grow your good to go! You just have to make sure and get it mixed very, very, very well and you only have 20 sec to do it and 20 sec to pore. I mixed for 30 sec and dumped it. Used a drill and a coat hanger I cut and bent to mix, worked really good. You know its mixed when it milks up. I only made 12 oz at a time and was pushing to get it mixed.

Got the motor tore down and it look good! I love Yamaha Ski's! Its been 14 years with out working on one, pretty much. I bought it new in 95' and sold my Kawi, lol! I could have shook the rings off the pistons, no joke. Any way I put a mic on cylinder its 80.95/3.188 each hole I think couldn't get a good reading and the pistons were 80.72/3.178. Like I said its been a long time sence I've worked on a motor. Think I can get away with just a hone and new top end? I will search and read my manual but give some input for now.

If it were my motor, I would tear it down to the crank right now and check the condition of the bearings. If the crank is fine then I would at least change the crank seals, they get old and brittle after time.

Yeah going to do that for sure. The pistons look perfect with a great even burn pattern all the way across. The rod bearing still look new. Just not sure to hone or bore yet.

Not sure what footholds should feel like as I have never stood in a ski with them. I tried my footholds out and they didn't feel good to me. They were to sharp at the top of the foot. Last thing I need is a broken ankle so I cut them to be flatter and they feel much mo better. Got a good coat of glass on, Sand and fill tomorrow/today. Feel like I'm on the down hill side now.

Did you do a compression test on your motor b4 tearddown? That tells all. If your compression was good and consistant between the 2 cylinders all I would do is change your crank seals. Seals are the life of a 2stroke, if you have 14 yrs on them I bet its time for some. You can even change them without pulling your topend apart but since you have it all apart check your crank too. And once together pressure test, thats real important for checking for vaccume leaks. Use threebond 1211 or something similar for your cases.

sweet project....

and ur video is sick man......congrats on the skills bro

Thankx dude!

I was wondering about you..... Did check comp 175 both holes. Yes its getting a complete rebuild with just a hone. I was going to send the cylinders and cases off to be ported but after reading I thinking I can handle it. I am going to send the fly wheel off not sure where. I did see someone here on the X that does it on the side but can't find him. Any one know who I'm talking about?

Scraped the snorkel ideal. The handle pole is at -5 so the two will be going in the water about the same time. Picked some gutter mesh to use on molding the liner and the top of the hood I cut off. I will not leave the mesh in, its just to support the glass as I lay it.

A little more sanding and I will be thru with the hull. It came in at 93 pounds. I did beef up the week places, extra glass around the footholds and pump, went with 3 pound foam and installed one ways. Guess that's where the extra 10 lb's came from, better safe than sorry.

nice work! The tray looks nice and wide.

if you ever considered throwing in a SJ tank (for more fuel capacity, and more room for the pipe) you might want to reconsider how much the hood liner dips into the engine room. If not, then keep on working!

What color is the beast going to be, pastel pink:nana:?

Black and white, I think.

I tried a few things with the hood. This is what I wound up with. Still have a little glassing to do but I see the end of the tunnel! Hopefully going to paint this weekend.

I'm at 6 lb's on the hood as of now. Should be less that 8 when finished. If I had it to do over I think I could get it in under 5 lb's but not that worried about it.

Dang. You went from riding a basically stock ski to going all out in one season, lol. Is that a wetjet intake i see? My fx1 is going to be a turd in comparison.

sure looks like a wetjet intake setup to me. I need a set of carbontech reeds for my wetjet setup if anyone has any please PM me. Ski is looking good tho, I like the tray. Nice work

Finished up my cases. I didn't go crazy with the porting where I had to use epoxy, just opened them up a little and put in some texture.

Honed the cylinder. Winded the exhaust port a bit and put a chafer on all ports.

Welded a piece of aluminum to the pump, counter sunk drilled and cut a notch. Looks like it may work.
