Even after all these years I am amazed by the tenacity of these virus/malware/PUP's (Potentially Unwanted Programs) creators. So damn annoying and always always one step ahead of us good guys. Screw you Conduit (large software company based in Israel). They are responsible for 15 years of absolute chaos in the computer world. Honorable mentions also go to java, flashplayer, Apple software on a PC, HP printer drivers. I would love to see some type of world software police. I would fine some people right out of business if I were the Chief. Toshiba and HP would immediately be on my hit list. They ship perfectly good hardware bloated to death with the industries most obnoxious software installed right out of the box! All of the above mentioned companies are committing crimes against humanity as far as I am concerned!

Oh man I left out two of the biggest offenders of all time! The "Anti virus" programs of McAfee ant Norton! 2 programs that behave like potentially unwanted programs and actually get viruses! I see Norton is making a a come back in tech articles I read....but I will NEVER forget that at one point (and for a long stretch) they WERE the virus! Young technical writers have no idea what they are spitting out of their mouths!

Id like to thank these people. My business has generated revenue off of this type of software for over ten years.

I absolutely agree. Norton would slow an XP machine down so bad, it was just like having a virus.

However, to me, the worst one on the list of malware/adware offenders is still eUniverse. Around the millennium eUniverse owned a bunch of garbage websites, not unlike Ebaumsworld. As the story goes, eUniverse also made all kinds of invasive adware that infected hundreds of thousands of computers to drive users to their sites so that they could inflate the ad hits/views/clicks that generated their revenue. They were clever though, and could see the snare closing in on them, so they decided to try and find a way to legitimize their business and perhaps even launder money. What did they do? They decided to copy friendster and they called it, MySpace. Rumor has it that they even spammed friendster's users to try to convince people to jump platforms. Why do I hate eUniverse the most? Because two-and-a-half years after "inventing" MySpace, the crooks who ruined your computer with adware back in the year 2000 made a cool $580 million on the sale! I'm sure they laughed all the way to the bank, and then bought the bank because, "What the hell else are you going to spend that kind of money on?"

I guess I wish I knew what the heck I wa$ doing back then!!!

It was EA$Y picking$!!!!

Yeah, but why aim so low? Had I the ability to go back in time, I'd invent Snapchat, and then sell it. Rumor has it that the idiots who invented it turned down not one, but two multi-BILLION dollar offers. How can you ever turn down $3-$4,000,000,000.00 when your company DOES NOT EVEN GENERATE ANY REVENUE? And, it isn't like Snapchat does anything particularly amazing either. The brilliantly simple thing that is Snapchat is as genius as turning down those offers was stupid.

Norton went from king to crap over the years of 2003-2010. It wasn't until 2011 they cleaned up their act and became useful again. I have had great results using them since I went back to them in 2011. Anything prior to then, forget it. What convinced me to go back to them was finding that virtually everything out there would slow the machine down to a crawl accept Norton. That and the fact that the U.S.Department of Defense uses Symantec's Endpoint Security, a beefed up version of Norton. That was about all I needed after months of research.

My boss used to have Webroot and his pc was loaded full of nasty e-bugs. It didn't stop anything lol. I would have to say that of the best I have ever used and was willing to spend 60 bucks or so, Emsisoft Internet Security would be my only choice. Another real pain in the e-arse is this ad-bee. It does a self install, puts its own browser toolbar in and slows everything down to about the speed of molasses in January lol. Unfortunately the only safe computer is one that never sees the internet or downloaded software.

couldnt agree more about HP and notron/mcafee. add to that gateway computers (junk) and all windows OS. Their logic is similar to dodge's car evolution and production methodology. Im in a computer science course now and we see the BS and the easy working systems. If everything ran java, the world would be a better place. or C#.
