I went down like Whale Sheit today.

Rode about 1/3 of a mile and it instantly died. No electric whatsover, (no bilge). About 7 minutes later it sunk. (just 1 inch of the back was above water). Ray towed me in. It was like the longest sub ever.

Here is what is new:
Entire Electrical system (brand new)
Starter
Bendix

I am guessing it is a short somewhere........

Coast Guard came by. I asked them to go to the beach for me and flag down my friend (about 1500 feet away). They said they can't but can call commercial towing if I want. I told them I was sinking and the Towboat takes over an hour to show up. They stood there and watched me sink. Right after it sank, Ray showed up. They then wanted me to file accident reports and crap...I'm like "Why?". They didn't do anything except watch.

Yeah same thing almost happened to me last weekend. Went out and rode for about a half hour. Ski ran perfect and I was on my way back to the ramp. On the way I was messing around and took a couple minute break in the middle of the river. Went to start the ski back up and same thing, nothing at all. Had to swim the ski 400 yards to the shore. Sucked bad... and now I'm trouble shooting to find the problem.

Glad you got yours in, that is a sweet ski.

Damn, glad you got in DJ.

See if you guy's had no foam instead of Soaking wet foam, the ski would be alot more boyant once sunk.... The tray on my ski floats above water a solid 18"s when I use to sink my ski.

Holy crap man, glad you didn't lose it. I'm assuming it was in surf. How come it sank, just because of waves or did you lose your hood?

small waves.... I was dead and floating for a while and the water came in through my bilge hole. (I had NO power and the bilge was dead) Eventually the hole stayed under water and down she went. It won't sink all the way... styrofoam in SXRs.

I can't get it running... Bendix won't engage. I turned it upside down and emptied the water and filled the cyllinders with oil. Spun it around alot too. Tomorrow, I am pulling the motor and flywheel, putting back in my old bendix and I will get it fired.

so that makes them (Coast Guard) culpable in watching the accident unfold then? WTF ever happened to common sense? :censored: Coast Guard.:grumble: Maybe someone "in the know" can explain more from their point of view? Glad your bud showed up and you managed to recover allright...

Maybe it had something to do with liability but is't still f'ed up. They are only concerned with saving human life, not property.

I guess it's easy to point to finger at the coast guard but even a red neck in a 1960's jon boat would've at least flagged your friend down for you...

If you are going to stop and ask if everything is ok... the least you can do is offer some help. The occasionaly highway patrol car will help you change a tire on the highway because he knows it's stupid to watch you wait an hour for a tow truck.

I forgot!
hey dj, with that ignition if you have a bad positive connection the ski will die as it runs off the battery. my advent ignition did that to me at the niagara river that time. remember me...the guy with the kawi drifiting out into the lake. turned out that it was a bad positve connection in the e-box. the ski died and the start button did nothing as well. somthing to maybe check out i guess.

You hit it, D-Roc. Did I tow you down the Niagara? It was actually a ground wire that had a piece of zip tie under the washer. (It felt tight, it wasn't)
