DO you know anyone that rides out there? Im really Interested in checking it out.

Lots of guys ride Canyon Lake. Theres usually someone riding on the weekends. But you want to ride there when no one else is there so the whole place is yours. But seriously just like nikad58 said, you live close to one of the best ocean riding spots around. Guys on this forum would kill to live as close to the ocean as you do. Forget the lakes and come down and ride Oceanside. The whole O'side crew rides every week end and about 3 times a week. Some of the guys are incredibly good riders and some are beginers so you'll fit in. A word of warning-once you ride the surf you'll never want to go back to flat. I moved to Oceanside from Chino 5 yrs ago just so I can surf ride and I've never looked back.

i honestly cant understand that..thats like saying you would rather stakeboard in a flat parkinglot compared to riding the sickest skatepark around...surfriding isnt about doing freestyle in the waves..its about flowing with surf, making hard turns in critical sections and if you see a nice launchpad, backflip it..its so much more dynamic than practicing the same thing over and over in terrain that never changes

227.. What meant was Slut lives in one of the best ocean spots in the world to jet ski !! not for waves but for the whole atmosphere, being able to drive right down on the beach. have a lifegaurd stop and say hi as he helps you unload your ski, have them watching you to where you could even ride alone if you wanted.. Kinda like old Sea Cliff (Ventura) when the oil piers were still there.. There could be 50 skis there on a weekend with the cops taking pictures, helping, etc.

At O-side you cant very well set up a beach day now can you ? <-- skip the rules please.. but yes there are great waves up and down trestles/O-side..
I grew up in long beach surfing and I go out there, sneek down to surfside for a few waves and beat it out of there, then ride the harbor or out to the oil dericks,..

Now everywhere in So. Calif you need to be sneeky !

Wow, I thought marine patrol in FL were bad, but they're nothing compared to the stuff I read on here. I've only had one run in with them in 5+ years and I deserved it.

lol thats true !! but on that same note.. Some dont want air !! Some want to do a 55mph leg drag !! Some want a perfect set up wake ! This list can go forever ! This is what jet sking is all about !! Something for everyone !
In Texas I saw some people on a old Wave Jammer (i think it was her/his only ski) in the waves and thought, huh ? Why ? Then I saw thier smiles and it was all clear !

lol.. ooops.. damn did we thread jack this post or what !! sorry ! Back on topic .. MAN UP !! Take your ticket and pay it !!

Ill see what happens with my citation. I dont know what the fine is or anything like that. I have to see the judge on the 20th of September.

The reason I was saying that people should not go to Puddingstone was that the guy who wrote me the ticket said, "We (as in the patrol) dont like to see stand ups out here." He was telling me how they thought they were too unstable and dangerous. Soo even if you just went 35 mph and followed all the rules they still wouldn't like you.

I mentioned to the officer after he wrote my ticket that I was told by a friend (SUBNSXR) that after most, if not all of the other people, are off the water that the patrol tends to be ok with tricks and what not; as long as you are safe.

The officer told me that they have decided to have a zero tolerance policy and that they would be looking for him next time he shows up. So Charles be careful.

So I will "MAN UP" and deal with my ticket and do whatever the judge decides. Yes, I should have asked a few of the patrol officers if it was ok to do some freestyle, and yes it was my bad to just assume that it was ok when everybody else was off the water.

I just wanted to give a heads up to the other members of the site about the feelings that Puddingstone has towards standups.

So all the patrol guys dont like stand ups ? or 1 guy ?
The reason Im jumping in is.. Like i said before.. we go test there alot.. gordon from Pacific jets sports does too.. WE have never ran into the attitude you are talking about EVER ! As a matter a fact they seem to like us alot ! We tow in broken skis/couches so they dont have to. We try and let people know when they are doing something that will get them in trouble like spins/wrong way/etc. When ever Im out there Im pretty much looking behind me for a 500 lbs couch coming up from behind at 50mph, look alert all the time ! it is a zoo out there and they take alot of ******** from people.. (It doesnt take alot to piss off a cop) I have to think they didn't take yours.. Sorry Not everyone likes stand ups and by what you said.. 1 out of 20 found you ! How come he only wrote you a ticket ? you said your buddies were there too !

Hey CD, F puddingstone because unless you like to leg drag in a circle or "drift" ha ha. your gonna have to slate some weekday time at elsinore or weekend time at Oceanside to get these tricks down. I'm there too, elsinore is a dream during the summer on weekdays, no one there and no patrol, the weekend is pretty packed, turbulent water and two patrols, some on skis. Lets go drink some salt some time, might help with my sinus issue too....

Here is the actual statute for the citation that I was given.

655.7. (c)
"every personal watercraft shall, at all times, be operated in
a reasonable and prudent manner. Maneuvers that unreasonably or
unnecessarily endanger life, limb, or property, including, but not
limited to, jumping or attempting to jump the wake of another vessel
within 100 feet of that other vessel, operating the personal
watercraft toward any person or vessel in the water and turning
sharply at close range so as to spray the vessel or person, or
operating at a rate of speed and proximity to another vessel so that
either operator is required to swerve at the last minute to avoid
collision, is unsafe or reckless operation of a vessel"

The only thing I think the judge might say is that doing a SUB will unreasonably or unnecessarily endanger life, limb, or property. So i guess what I need to do is convince the Judge that a sub was in no way endangering myself because it is a simple maneuver that even beginner stand up riders can do safely.

I was not endangering anybody else because there were only 2 other rider on the water that were both more than 200 yards away from me.

I don't know. I just am worried that the judge wont want to hear anything from me.

In Texas I saw some people on a old Wave Jammer (i think it was her/his only ski) in the waves and thought, huh ? Why ? Then I saw thier smiles and it was all clear !

That someone was me! The old Jammer is actually a very fun boat in the surf, especially now with the 701. Since I can't do many tricks, just jump, it suits me sometimes to ride it. And when the Gulf gets to be a washing machine and the SN is beatin' me up, I switch to the Jammer. I call it my sissy-girl boat for when I'm feeling chicken. You'd be surprised at how much air I can get on a good day. It'll be even better when we put a bigger pump in it someday. It's boring as he11 on flat water, though. We don't always haul it to the surf, sometimes just the SN, like this last weekend.

Sorry to continue the thread jack, back to your regularly scheduled ticket discussion.

One of my buddies got $500 in fines and 10 days in the work house for going through a channel full speed (no bouys out yet) and no registration numbers (had the stickers). ********ers made an example out of him.

As a lawyer, here's what to do... (NOT a California one, tho)

Take the boater course...get the certificate.

When you go to court, you will be respectful, dress well (not like me after four days of surf riding :) ), and you'll most likely talk to a prosecutor.

Explain (bring a picture of *your* ski) what you were doing. Point out that you were not near anyone else, you were not speeding, and you were not at any time out of control, although the trick you were doing may have looked it to the outsider. You may want to bring a picture of the trick to show the prosecutor during your discussion.

The prosecutor will most likely be interested in clearing the court calendar and going home, not listening to a dog and pony show. You'll most likely get an offer to a reduced charge. Pay the fine and go.

OR

You can be firm, and ask for a trial. You will get one, probably at the end of the calendar or another day. You will now be risking whatever the higher penalty is-and if you do this, don't do it unrepresented.

Most of the time a deal is offered with a fine, but I'm not a CA atty, so I can't state what specifically.

Here in NY, I'm so far unhassled.
