Puddingstone Lake hates Standups

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to give you all a heads up that live in Southern California.

Last week on Thursday I thought I would ride on Puddingstone Lake and test out my new Wet Pipe. I got there when most of the people were getting off the lake around 5:30. I just cruised around and didnt try anything too crazy until everybody was off the water.

The only people on the water were my roommates (one on his X2 and the other on his Blaster), and the patrol that was sitting at various points on the lake in the no wake zone.

I was trying nose stab 180's and Barrel Flops (i land upside down still) and the patrol didn't seem to care. I figured since there was only 3 skis on the entire lake that everything was ok with them. I did a few subs also where the lifeguards could see. They didn't seem to mind.

But after about and hour of ridding, the patrol comes up to me on their boat, right after I did a sub, and the guy tells me that he was going to write me a ticket for "RECKLESS OPERATION."

As he is writing my ticket he tells me how he thinks stand ups are dangerous and that they cause more problems than any other type of ski on the lake.

So now I have to got to the Pomona Superior Court on Sept. 20th and see the judge about doing a tiny little sub.

Moral of the story is don't go to Puddingstone!!!!!!

What! What!
Saw your thread on the other site.

When you go to court take your laptop and show them these demonstration videos of how to perform this maneuver. I bet it will convince the judge that it is not reckless, but actually a typical and fairly common feat. This is one of the first moves that many beginners learn since it is fairly flashy. Good Luck.

Go to the new Trick How-to's Forum here. (Look for the Jump Sub and the Submarine threads)

After having some *experience* with the law regarding these matters, I'd plea not guilty, take a boating safety class before the pre-trial, talk to the prosecuter at the pre-trial and tell him/her you were just trying tricks you read about, but after your class you realize how important it is to ride safe, and ask for probation or a reduction to a CI. Should get it if you have a clean record.

You are out having fun on a lake and they are not, so you are already guilty. Just try to get the charge reduced and move on.

Next time, talk to the cops ahead of time if you see them and tell them you will be practicing for a competition and describe some of the things you intend to practice. Then you can get a feel for how far you can go, and they will also realize you aren't a moron when they see you trying to sink your jetski.

Sux, I know, but this is a game you seldom win, they have an unfair advantage.

If there were no boats, couches or people arround in the water then how can this be reckless oporation. It is a controlled / learned menouvor IMO. And this would be your opinion against his and I would fight it to the superior court and even pay a POS Lawyer before I was convinced otherwise. He gave a ticket based on his opinion so I would have my say and invite him to his in court. You had 2 people with you as witnesses as well. Scr-w that azzbag.

Not to mention puddingstone is another filthy socal lake that has a 35 MPH speed limit and your supposed to only ride in a circle.

Lesson learned-stay off crappy lakes.

So, after watching you for an hour being reckless and endangering the live of others and yourself he finally decided to stroke you a ticket??? Comming from a former cop I can admit that is :bs2: I would contest it especially after his comments.

I thought ridding on the back end of Canyon Lake was not allowed? Do you ever get hassled for ridding back there?

The Canyon Lake society considers the area North of the dike in the back channel thier "salom course" but in the very back right at the bend there's about a 50 yard wide by 300 yrd long section that you can ride in. It's pretty rare that a patrol boat is even there and when they are it's usually a volunteer that can't give you a citation.

Moral of the story is don't go to Puddingstone!!!!!! No it's never think it's ok to break the law without permission !!!

Puddingstone.. we go there alot to test skis.. Always ask if its cool to do something thats against thier rules.. explain what you will be doing and where. get the ok 1st.. (tricks, subs, speeding) In your case the guys in the boat might have thought it was ok but the big guy at the covered dock may not have and used his radio.. had you asked they would have come over and said.. The boss said "no can do" and thats it ! Never "think" its ok to break the rules on your own !
Its like waiting for a parking lot to empty and tell a cop i thought it would be ok to do donuts in my car now !
At Long Beach if you talk to the life gaurds in the boat 1st about being safe, nice day, etc. small talk .. they will throw off a big wake everytime they come by !! (stay off thier stern about 30 feet tho) <--- Be safe !!!!

My only ticket was for doing a fountain on a deserted lake (well,
deserted except for that DNR boat).

Even though I was only moving at 1/2 MPH, because I was backwards
on the hood they dinged me with Reckless Operation.

Riding forward at 45-50mph WOT is much more dangerous than idling
backwards, but they don't see it that way.

geeeez.. I guess it needs to be explained the way it is..
A jet ski is a motor vehicle such as a car, motorcycle, boat etc.
(to operate such a vehicle on public waterways/roadways there are rules to follow)
If you did any of your tricks on a public lake, roadway on any of these vehicles you will get a ticket but for some reason some feel that just because it can be done on a jet ski, it should be safe in everyones eyes !
Some cops will let you practice on a lake and most of us are thankful, some cops wont and they are azz oils in some peoples eyes huh !
If you dont feel you are thankful for being able ride jet skis the way we do go try and go find a cop that will let you practice your wheelies on your street bike, ramp jump, drift, stand on the hood of your car doing 1/2 mile an hour in a deserted parking lot !! whatever.. Go fight it !
