Not that kind... Who all out there is using any safety gear other than a helmet? I'm looking for some suggestions on ankle braces that will not interfere with my footwells. I'd love to hear what else yall are using. I don't mind looking like a tool when I get stupid as long as the gear works wells and keeps me on the water longer.

I bought some ankle braces just before the Daytona ride at Sports Authority. They don't interfere with my footholds at all and took very little time to get used to. I broke my left ankle in May 2004 and my right one in October 2005. :aargh4:

I believe that EVS, one of the sponsors of the Daytona ride has some quality braces with the watercraft rider in mind. I would check out their products.

I wear ankle braces every time I ride. I twisted both my anklese in seperate incidents last year, and ankles are just the injury that won't go away. Mine are just a mesh type one I picked up at a sports store.

A couple of the oside guys wear knee/shin guards. I'm going to pick up a small light set sooner or later. I can handle the banged up shins....but knees can just get too f-ed up to easily.

Jerry, let me know when you find out what type of knee pads they use. Do they offer any support? I tried a drugstore knee brace in Daytona on the outside of my wetsuit but it didn't last three minutes. There's too many to choose from on EVS' website...

I like the EVS AB04 ankle support with the plastic inserts but I don't think this will work well in boot or shoe. Anyone tried this one?

Anyone know if any retail stores carry EVS products? Thanks again

I'm not sure they provide much support. Joe Kenny wears a knee brace, and recently MattSmith has been wearing one after his ACL surgery. The knee pads that Runaway wears are just some cheapo fox knee pads. He wears them over his wet suit and under riding pants. I think without the riding pants, they'd probably fall off.

I use a CTI knee brace since I've had ACL surgery. It supports my knee and stays on it the water. The CTI I have is made of carbon fiber & kevlar and is very pricy. Get your doctor to write you a prescribition for 1.

EVS has the ones that are like wetsuit material and they have the wraps that help the suport as well. There is lots of good stuff out there.

I used to ride with the ankle braces too..It was the type that slid on, laced up, then wrapped around, and velcroed..worked well, my ankle is better now though..

and the knee braces you see JK ride with, typically need to be sized and fitted by a phsycian/trainer. and are pricey

edit: Also lately ive been thinking of wearing earplugs under my helmet, with so many guys have blowouts. anyone do this?

I checked out a pair of the EVS Vision's yesterday and could have gotten a good discount on them but it seemed like the knee piece would catch water and costantly flip out of whack

Tooth guard - definitely. I like those ankle braces that lace up too. I'm sure I could make a shoe fit over them.

I'll also be getting a cup. Anyone have an idea who makes the largest? I have a feeling my balls will grow this season the more I ride around like an abram's tank :woot:

I rolled my akle at waterworld a few months ago and its never been the same. I'm gonna start wearing a lace up ankle brace. I also wear motocross cheapo shin/knee guards under my wetsuit. It feels great and makes you feel superhuman. My shins got so messed this last season. I had a hemotoma and was out for a month. I tried the EVS Knee/shin guards and they don't work!! I had to use lots of duck tape to get them to stay up because the straps have no strength.

I've also been thinking about getting a pair of 15mm neoprene shorts. They use them for barefoot waterskiing. That alone could have kept me from being a gimp for the last 3 months when the ski landed on my quadracep

My damn problem is my knees. For some reason I've twisted it on various landings and have never been able to fully recover.

My question is this... I'm curious how some of you are able to hit such big waves and land them without hurting yourself? I don't have footholds currently, and maybe that's my problem. I have landed several waves with the rear of the ski entering the water first, and still I have either twisted or hyper extended my knee. What is the problem... footholds? hitting bottom?

I do have a pair of Don Joy Braces that I could look into wearing in the water. I know I can use them during motocross. I have never tried them in the water.

I am probably no one to talk here because all I am doing right now are huge nose stabs but I really think the Hydroturf 1" padding is feeling very good!

Before that I was getting the **** kicked out of my outer right shin. I put the thick padding around the top of my footholds where my ankles hit. I have no fear of that now.

As I go bigger I may consider ankle braces and or shin guards. Mike, is there such a thing a cheapo motocross gear? Those sound like the best answer.

The hyper-extension is most likely from bad timing of when your extending your legs to brace for impact. It happens to me time to time when I misjudge the height I get and extend to early.
