Pole breather tube ?

Boris

The Good Old Days
Has anyone ever attempted to put a breather tube into a stock RN pole ?

I just picked up a RN pole to put on my SN (thanks Slutty) and was thinking about putting a tube in there.
The pole just has some styrofoam in there that could be removed to fit a hose inside.
Has anyone ever done this ?

On the xmetal poles how far does the hose go, all the way up to the turn plate ?

How does the hose end, is it wide open or does it have some kind of deflector to keep the water out ?

Do the steering/throttle cables and wiring run inside the breather hoses ?

Am I wasting my and your time ?

I was actually thinking about a 1-1 1/4" vent tube or breather tube similar to the xmetal setup. I could sacrifice a shop vac if need be.
Since there isn't much space in the pole I was thinking of running one tube instead of 2.

I used flex tubing from the plumbing section of Lowe's. 1.25" or something - I don't remember exactly. You'll have to remove some of the foam from your pole using a wire wheel or whatever. It probably doesn't hurt the farther up you go but I just went up a foot or so so it wouldn't bind or pop out at various degrees of up/down.

Thanks beachjunkey.

What about the cables/wires ?
Did you run them inside the tube or did you run the tube along side of the stock rubber pass through ?

I almost did that, but was worried the strength of the pole would be compromised...

go to lowes and get some spa tubing, then make a hole cutting tool out of a piece of pvc pipe, by cutting teeth into the end of the pipe..

Got ya

Now what about the end that goes into the hull ?
Should I push some tube into the hull in case of roll overs or just leave it flush and secured to the pole mount bracket ?

I break stuff
I currently have blocked off my xmetal pole breathers. When the ski goes upside down in the surf water rushes in up the pole and into the engine compartment. If you can extend the breather into the hull down to the bottom, say in front of the waterbox, so it would be above the waterline when the ski's upside down. Then it would be ok.

Speak up ,don't kiss azz
Theres already a hole there for the cables and such so it's sucking air
through there already without having a tube in there .

If you extend a tube far up the pole it would still suck air without sucking water if you went under water just a foot or so

MADMAT, I got the exact same hose as yours as yours.
I think it looks great.

I hope to get as much of that hose as I can into the hull, I want to get it as low as the stock breather hoses in the hood.
I also opened up the pole enough to get the hose all the way up to the top.

If I do get a bunch of water coming in through this setup than I can always go back to stock but I think it's worth a try.

Should have it all back together tomorrow and than I need to modify my SN pole pad to fit the RN pole.

My setup has closed off front hood air holes, 1100GPH bilge, and a scupper.

I have zero issues with water even if I pull a fountain :)rolleyes: ) for like 40 seconds.

I can actually nail the throttle for a couple of blips when doing deep subs and still have no issues when I come up.

The breather tube in the pole works great.

I got enough hose into the hull that it snakes around the front with the steering cable. The other end goes all the way up to the top of the pole.

I still have all the holes opened on my stock SN hood (I'm working on a different hood), when I rev the motor on the trailer I can really hear and feel air getting sucked down the pole.
I guess my little 650 wants and likes the extra air.

Thanks Slutty.
The "Terminator" looking pole and bracket work GREAT !:arms:
