painting ski with spray paint

I know this has been talked about before.

Id like to paint my sqaure nose but dont want to spend a fortune. Anyone have any luck with one rattlecan paint over another? Is there a nice thick clear coat sealer that would protect the paint? I used "professonal" type spray paint to paint my x2 and it is already got 2 chips in it and hasnet even been used yet. Would it be better to mix spray paint in a bucket with hardner and then roll it on? lemme know what you guys have found to hold up the best i want to spray my ski a nice shiney white....not more then once though

Go for it... my expensive car paint is chipping too. Paint chips off of skis... they don't stay perfect.

You could use Interlux Perfection 2-part paint. More challenging then your average spray job but more durable and cheap. I use it on my boats with no problem. Won't look as good as a pro job but it's pretty damn good for a roll-on (you roll-on, then 'tip' it)

If it was me ,which it ain't and I wanted a good durable cheap paint job I would go to the PPG dealer and get some of their industrial paint ,I think its like $40.00 a gallon ready to spray,then get a prevail sprayer or a cheap paint gun if you have a compressor and go after it.You are probably going to spend more than that on rattle cans and it won't look near as good or hold up as well.

appliance epoxy works well, but only available in black or white ( the silver isnt glossy)

it still doesnt hold up as well as REAL paint, but is MUCH cheaper and easier to touch up later.

either do it all the way, or do it as cheap as you can!

The nice thing abot the PPG paint is you can get any color you want as long as its a solid color and for a few dollars more you can get the urethane converter to go in it as well.It industrial paint it hold up very well,I painted the metal on my shop with it.

ppg is supose to be the best paint in the automotive industry. I got 1 quart base and 1 quart clear with all the other stuff needed and it cost me 200 bucks. but that was the high end PPG paint. Suppose to be shooting wensday

I have been fooling around with some KIRKER AUTOMOTIVE PAINT,so far I am very impressed with it,it is urethane,it lays on very smmoth and flows out well.They sent me a bunch of pints of paint to try out,actually enough to paint my ski with for free.The SPECRTA series is like House of colors and yopu can mix and match colors to get the perfect shade.

Keep in mind, you can't spray any other type of paint over it because it will crack to all hell. That being said, the epoxy does hold up well....but I only use it for the engine compartment now.

also, I didnt prep inside my ski at all, and the first fuel leak ( about a gallon!) inside took almost all of the paint off in one big sheet!

it is fuel resistant, but if it sits IN fuel it will lift and peel eventually.

fuel spills on the outside havent effected it at all though

I did my X2 with the cheap rattle can stuff from PepBoys and have been very happy with it (sans the fact that I am selling the ski!). I painted it last year.
