i moved onto a lake in Ga 2 yrs ago and knew i wanted a standup, but held off and bought some couches right away...big mistake. Mcdog lives down the road and let me ride his rn sj last summer and i was hooked. They're big fun, a decent work out and relatively easy to work on, so now i'm here. Mcdog and i found a couple squares last summer. i kept mine. he deconstructed and reconstructed his and then sold the beast, but like herpes he can't seem to get rid of it (LOL!). i rode mine all last summer in pretty much stock form. The last owner had installed WDK rev footholds and a RIVA red pipe...bout it besides a half-arse paint job. I turfed it last summer, put in a new bilge and rode it like hell. This winter my odyssee to study, learn, and rebuild this badboy has begun. Only after a million, home-DIY projects have been done ( i TRY to keep the wifey happy). Here's the ski on purchase day and then after my first turf job. Mine is blue one. comments acknowledged, criticism accepted, and beers expected.:Banane26:

sn luv affair

all this stuff is post-dated due to me working and not taking the time for a build thread. i lost a alot of pics due to a corrupted CF card on my camera, so the engine bay prep work pics were lost and my wrestling match with 17 oz biax! i won, but wound up with lots of emotional scars. he he. So, the engine is pulled, ribs ground, engine bay sanded with 50 grit. i filled the bond line with Mcdogs mix of epoxy 3:1, cabosil, and microballoons. i also filled the top lip under hood seal with the same. then i layed the biax from hood lip to floor and up to 2nd nose rib. glass dyed black and painted bottom with high temp enamel x 3 coats. the paint doesn't seem to dry well when in contact with the epoxy mix??? gave it the shop light treatement.

my plans for the ski are:

bottom hull re-gelcoat or paint black
ADA 35cc head
limited B-pipe
44mm carb rebuild
MSD TL
RN pole conversion
0 degree bars, new ODI grips and billet throttle
solas 13/16 cutback 3mm
WW pump cone
gonna freshn' up the turf with some white diamond around the bumper, chin pad and maybe redo inside of footwells.
***and almost forgot my favorite mod...i'm going to break the bank, but what the hell,
i'm putting Surfjetlouie's hood and nose piece on when he gets em done***

that looks good!

let me know how that paint in the hull holds up.

I need to do something inside my sons boat to freshen it up, but the last few things ive tried havent held up well.

Nice looking square. The epoxy enamel, was it spray bomb or shot from a paint gun? I love the black cloth, it's a good look...(It's what I have in my RN):afro:

Also, the black turf...is that B stock, or the full priced stuff? It looks cool.

I'm trying to find some cheap turf for my son's sqaure, but all HT has now cheap is purple stuff.:chairshot:

yeah...it's the full price turf. i actually brushed the floor of the hull with the enamel. got it from lowes...like $12/quart with a semi-matte finish. i may try to clear coat the floor or figure out someother option (taking suggestions here) to prevent it from looking like hell next winter after a summer with internal fuel fill.

hull cleaning

got a little done today after a mtb ride. the bottom of my hull looks like wolverine got hold of it. it got the bottom cleaned and sanded with 50 grit via orbital sander and elbow grease. take a look at the bottom right corner of boat and see if this scrape is deep enough that it needs filler. how does the sanding look? is it enough sanding in prep for primer and gel coat? did some searching and calling around. decided to skip paint and go for gelcoat since i have some here and us composits said i could do it without too much headache. gonna do black gelcoat on bottom of hull. hopefully rain will hold off tomorrow and primer will dry so i can get to gelln' in the afternoon.

are you saying they no longer have the cheaper B grade turf?

Coming from a person who has to clean and buff old ********ty gelcoat everyday.... do yourself a favor and don't use gelcoat. Just paint it, and when it starts coming off, paint it again.

I'll second the paint thought but I'd recommend keeping it white. Over my 12 years with boats, I've really grown to hate gelcoat even after 2-3 summers in the sun. You really have to take care of it or it'll look bad and make a mess. Paint is really easy to use and remove...good excuse to change the look every season or two.

I love the look of a nice gloss black but remember what the bottom of my ski looked like last summer. That was two coats of paint and two coats of polyurethane gloss. The black color on the front was worn off from beaching it and the back was worn off from the old gelcoat flaking. and it looked like sh*t!

Looking good so far though. White turf looks awesome but in the souths muddy lakes, it'll be yellow by mid summer.

Not trying to be real negative, just looking at it from the other side.

You're talking about black gelcoat on the INSIDE bottom of the hull, right? Your gonna look funny with a black bottom with white scratches if you gelcoat the bottom on the outside black.

i was thinking of doing a black bottom of hull like riverrats sn...just not nearly as glossy. i hear y'all on the scratches. Maybe i need to rethink it and just go white. u know, "once u go white..."

well, spent a long day and night with my honey (pablo's honey). after rubbing her backside and belly all night long all i got was her putting more clothes on than what she came with!!! take a look. DERRRRN! Maybe i'll put some Keith Sweat on next time i work on her (instead of Skynard).
Anyhoo, i got the bottom of hull primed with McPrimer from Mcdog, sanded with 120 and 180. Gelcoat x2. Thought long .........and got hard...then decided not to get into sanding the entire gelcoat on the bottom. gonna get beat to hell when she's beached. plan on doing a little rattle can action on the sides below the bow line. same blue as top deck and split it with white turf. sanded sides with 100, 120, & 180 may do a run with 220. got her all skirted out for prime and paint. hopefully i left my sh_t-magnet at work and i won't booger up this paint.

Nice skoolgirl out fit on old betsy there. I prefer the mini mini skirts where you can see some cheek. Now I know why you kept asking so many questions about the exhaust tube outlet.
