i have been looking at the nettops being offered vs a new desktop box.the reviews seem good, but i am skeptical of their size vs their capability. are they basically just a laptop core and simple?

Most netbooks aren't very powerful. They're fine for just browsing/e-mail but that's about it plus their resolution stinks for browsing on a regular basis.

I have a 12" HP Elitebook I use at home some and had a 10" Asus EEE I tried to get used to and the 12" blows the 10" away. Better keyboard, a 'real' resolution (1280x800 vs the 1024x600 on the EEE), same weight, and actually thinner than the EEE was. However, it's also quite a bit more expensive also.

Some of the newer netbooks with better chipsets/graphics might be better than the EEE I used, but I'd have to try one first before recommending it.

i was hoping you would chime in. th reviews are mixxed with more good than bad. but the census is that with more memory they are competitive

i am talking the nttop not net book. and the 1 from best buy has great reviews for hdmi output and home theater use. i do a lot of internet and video, as well as some picture and office docs. not a gamer nor will i ever be.

i have a nice 17" lcd and external drives already ie: dvd/cd burner and 250g portable drive.

for $200 they don't seem bad, but thats why i asked
